My first beef with LorAnn flavoring...

So, gave it my first shot at DIY today. Went with a 3 mL mix as a tester and haven't as of yet vaped it but it smells delightful! 16 mg/mL, 50/50 just for flow sake. At any rate, LorAnn uses WAY TOO MUCH coloring. I need to find something that doesn't use any coloring or very little at least. Any ideas from some of the more experienced DIYers out there?

I should have mentioned that it is their grape flavoring. Side note to the coloring, is the taste. The flavor comes through really well at about 10% but it's not the exact flavor that I'm searching for. I'm trying to get something that is a little closer to grape soda and not quite as grape candy. Any ideas there also?

+1 for to much coloring.

First bottle
First DIY attempt
LorAnn Coffee

Totally dark and seemed thick
Placed it is Steep and a week later it had coagulated.

That was my first and last attempt with LorAnn. The hand full of flavors I got are still sealed and on a back shelf.
Enjoying DIY with TFA, Capella and VZ, with an occasional FW to mix things up.

Although most of the flavors we purchase are used first as food flavorings, LorAnn's seems to be meant for presentation purposes too, like frosting and candy, hence all of the coloring. Too bad too, it's the only one I can find locally.

My local Walmart has Watkins & McCormick flavorings. Many of them are free of preservatives & colorings. My local grocery store has several other brands and a nearby liquor store & micro brewery supply chain (Friar Tuck's) has large bottles of fruit flavorings that are very good--I was looking for peach to add to lemonade but came home with sassafrass, strawberry, raspberry & cherry. I think there was a horehound flavor also but I gave that one away--I hate black licorice and one whiff of that bottle was enough to send it out of the house--LOL. You do have to read the boxes, though because even though many are good to go, some have coloring &/or preservatives. Hubby was so proud of himself when he found a good scented cherry at a grocery store but didn't read the ingredients. I will have to make him some cupcakes with his "trophy."

As per some advice from some of the DIY veterans here on the forum, I think I'll stay away from McCormick's for the foreseeable future. And the flavors from LorAnn are really good. Just too much coloring and I don't really want it to ruin my atty's. I would be interested in brewers supply for some of them though.

I can second that LorAnn is very heavy on colorings. Before buying cobalt blue glass bottles I used 120mL plastic and after mixing nicquid, it would almost stain the plastic a new color, after sitting for a few weeks it would stop, though.

I also hate their processing time. Takes so long.

Also, if you're looking to make a type of grape soda flavoring by combining two or more, I'd suggest getting the Champagne flavor and adding it to your Grape making little 3mL bottles until you find the proper mix.

I once used the Pecan, Hazelnut and Coffee flavorings alongside Coconut to make a very tasty coffee vape. :p

I like the champagne suggestion. Never thought of that flavor, but I definitely want some. I ordered some Mountain Dew flavoring from Vapor Shots, and I'm gonna see how it compares to what I got from the B&M. That 1 had a carbonated/bubbly sensation on the throat-hit, and also had a nice sour kick to it. I'm curious if the flavoring will be as good. But I wanna be able to recreate that type of throat-hit, which is what I figure champagne would do. Also definitely getting Lorann tart/sour drops to play around with. I've been curious if the B&M was using that in any of their stuff.

A lot of B&M's using tart/sour/sweeteners/ etc in their specialty or gourmet-ish flavors.

You might even want to try adding a little tart to your CURRENT grape flavor. You said it tasted like candy, which is sweet, add some tart and it may cause a transition into a soda-ish type taste for you as the tart could replace the carbonation and even cut back on the sweetness.

That's purely speculation, considering I've never used tart drops or Grape flavoring from LorAnn.

I've used pomegranate, blueberry, coffee, and toffee from LorAnn. I agree on the coloring of the coffee being a bit too much. The coffee flavoring is great, although I did go a bit heavy on it. Since I do almost 100% VG (almost due to the small amounts of PG in certain flavorings), i use about 25% flavoring. The coffee is very strong and makes it taste like I left the pot on the burner all day. Mixing toffee and coffee is great! The toffee isn't super dark so it doesn't gunk up the coils like the coffee does. Blueberry-pomegranate mix is also very good. It's actually my favorite I've made. Neither of those are dark and they don't dirty the coils terribly fast. Short of the super dark coloring on coffee, I'm super pleased with the four LorAnn flavorings I've tried.

Actaully I prefer to use Lorann Oils for my vaping needs, the flavors are really bold. Agreed that some of the flavors are really dark and think (Root Beer and Cola). I have tried Tutti Fuity, Strawberry, Bubble Gum and Apple and I have to say I love all of them. I have also tried the Cola and it turned my eliquid into almost a maple syrup texture and look (Immediatly had to replace atty after about 1.5ml), but none the less it tasted exactly like Coke.

I have no problems with Lorann Oils, but you really have to look at what your getting (Common sense should have told me that coke was going to be dark and syrupy).

Overall I love using Lorann Oils, the flavor is strong (A little goes a long way, and I like strong flavor about .5ml Lorann /15ml Base)

I just did the math, and that's roughly 3.2% you're using. I haven't started my DIY yet, but that seems pretty low compared to what I've read of 5-10%. I'm even a little more unsure about what to do w/ the flavorings I ordered from Vapor Shots. For their natural flavors, it says that they're not as strong, and to *start at 20%. I thought that sounded insanely high, but after reading around, it's not all that uncommon for some flavors. The 1st batch I wanna make is blueberry / vanilla ice-cream, and both flavors advise the 20% total, so I was planning on doing 10% of each. I have no idea what to expect, but I will kno how it compares to the B&M's stuff, and I'll start making adjustments from there. My package (2 day priority) was due today, but has been backed up due to the huge snowstorm in the northeast, bah!

You should first mix each flavor seperately to see what percentage you like of each before you mix them together. It's easier to figure out that way. Just a thought..
