So, get a good bat and bottle of juice. This is going to take a min
The led stopped working on my Joker. I emailed them and they said send 'er back, she under warranty. But that left me with a problem. I really enjoy my 5 volts of vaping. I like my ego, but it leaves me wanting more. What to do? I looked at box mods online. Figured they can't be that hard to build. I used to make my own electronics in middle and high school. I decided to use the 3 sets of rcr 123a batts i had for my joker as a power supply. So i ordered parts from mad vapes. Didn't really like the shapes of there boxes, so off to radio shack. I picked up wire and a led holder. Got my parts in. Went over to Lowes and picked up a pack of #12 finishing washer, and plastic spray paints and clear coat.
Started construction. Dusted off the old soldering iron (haven't touched it since 11th grade). Luckily, there was silver solider in there too, cause I forgot to get it at radio shack. Put a few coats of paint and clear coat on the box. Did my soldering and most of the wiring in between coats. Let it sit in the garage over night.
The electronics
~Madvapes~
1 horn button
1 5v regulator
1 470 ohm resistor
2 pair batt connectors
1 blue LED w/ resistor
1 pc solder board
Radio Shack
Wire ( 22 gauge stranded)
1 x cases, 4x2x1
1 pack chrome looking LED holder
1 blank PC board (no copper)
2 packs earth magnets
2nd Trip to the 'Shack
another box, same size
1 green led 5 mm
1 pack 470 ohm resistors
Lowes
1 pack #12 finishing washers
(I also bought paint, don't buy it. Read below)
Other things needed
Epoxy
Hot glue (low temp)
So after my box dried overnight, I went to the basement and started assembling it. Get all the way done, flip it over and both color paint had shifted and clumped while gripping it. I also went to put the back on and it wouldn't fit. The pc board mounts mad the eternals sit to high. So I went back to the Shack, got another box and a green led cause I liked it better. Also, dinner and some beer (my night off lol)
I tore the box completely apart, cut down the blank pc board, placed my regulator board in a different spot, and presto!!!! A working 5v box mod. It actually runs at 5.2 under load, but it kicks like a mule till the input voltage is too low for the regulator to fire.
Finer points
Above I listed a pack of #12 finishing washers. I dremeled out the center and used it as a e juce well to catch the over drips and such. I also used one behind the led holded to make it uniform
Earth Magnets were glued inside of case and lid to keep it securely closed. A touch of epoxy around a few spots on the edge, after dry, made a great tight fit of the lid.
Wires were secured with hot glue on the inside of box.
Also, a vent hole was drilled right below the regulator, on the bottom of case, in case of battery failure and to prevent overheating of regulator.
Sooooo, what do you guys think? I love feedback, any and all is welcome. My friend said "it looks like one of those bomb remote thingys". Since the name Detonator is already taken, what do you think I should call it?
