My first rba, took it out of the box and couldn't taste anything. Played with the coils and got it burning right but still nothing. If I drip it tastes awesome, but I ended up taking out the insulator and it kept shorting on me. I eventually cut the insulator a little bit and its gotten a little bit better, but I am so far a little bit disappointed.

I'm sure there's something I'm missing, so I will be patient, but I am using 100% VG juices from AVE that cartoed awesome.

Any input would be awesome!

Not sure what your issue is, but I will say they aren't as easy to set up as videos show. It took me a bit to get my coils working correctly, but once you do they work great. I actually gave up for awhile, and then went back to it and eventually got it. Nowadays I usually get them working on my first shot.

Basically don't give up, you'll get it eventually :)

My only input is to be paitent. I've got one RBA and don't want another one. To much of a pain for me. I'm lazy.

I think it was posts like this that kept me from even trying an RBA. I received my first today also a DiD clone. I built my first wick and coil with my feet up, sitting on my La-z-boy, and it has been vaping like a dream since about 4:30-5:00 this afternoon. I have gotten a few hits with a metallic taste but for the most part the flavor has been very clean and vibrant. Much better than I was getting from the carto tanks.

My ZAP just shipped today and I am very excited to get it after using this DuD today.

Well thats funny while I was typing this my ProV started throwing E2 errors. Not sure why but a little poking with a paper clip has it back to normal, My tank was also dry so maybe that was part of it? It seems to be producing more vapor now.

Ok back to the OP, did you tip it up to make sure it's wicking properly? Beyond that I have nothing just keep messing with it.

how long would you say the break in period lasts?

The break in period for the wick is a tank or two. Until it breaks in, your flavor can be a bit muted. I have a couple of juices that are strong enough that they're not very affected by the break in muting, so i always use those during that period. If you haven't, I would highly recommend watching Zen's ZAP video on Provape's site. Like Zen demonstrates, after I load the tank I tip it horizontally with the cap off and watch how fast (or slow) the juice wicks. My 50/50 juice takes two seconds or so to make it all the way up the wick, so I tip it a couple of seconds before firing to avoid dry hits.

Coil is fine, set properly. Left it overnight and tasted a 'little' strawberry but wasnt what I was used to. My cartotank is still winning...

Tip it. Hold it horizontally when you vape it. Also, nudge your coils to be sure the are all glowing nice and evenly. There are videos all over youtube on how to adjust coils on a genesis atomizer. Hang in there, I vape boba's and other ave juices in Zen's and they're waaay better than they ever were in cartos and they don't kill them every few days, either.

So a few things I'm wondering about now:

1. The coils only glow when the wick is dry, correct? So is it advisable to get them glowing again once I have juice in the tank?
2. Does the juice vape off the wick or the coils?
3. Can anyone post a pic of a new wick setup and a broken in wick that is vaping awesome? I have watched all the videos and know that my current wick/coil is setup correctly as there is no metal taste and they are all even, but I am still not getting that awesome flavor.
4. How do you handle the insulator? I trimmed mine, but do you need it and if not how do you avoid a short?

I know I have a lot of questions, but I just spent $150 expecting the world and I want to make sure I get this thing working right!

Thanks all!

Unless you have a short somewhere, yes, the coils glow on a dry wick. Just hold the pv upright and dry burn, they'll light up. Juice vaporizes from the wick and coil. The coil has electricity flowing through it and it gets hot, which heats the wick and juice to vaporize it. The coil doesn't have to "look" a certain way, it just needs evenly glowing coils, it really isn't a science. Just use the insulator. At this point you aren't even certain whether the device is working properly, I would leave it in. Make sure you didn't accidentally melt it to the wick, that can cause restrictions in wicking and funky flavor. Are you using the original wick and coil that came installed on the z atty? What is your resistance measuring and how many volts are you pushing?

I gave up on the first wick because the flavor was so metallic I thought I had killed it. I made a new one and it tasted better, coils are even, but no flavor. Resistance is 2 ohms. No errors during usage. At this point flavor seems to be the only issue, but I taste no metal at the moment.

Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you.

Day two with my DUD has been a bit frustrating getting consistent performance. Seems like every time the tank goes dry I end up with problems getting it wicking or eliminating hot spots on the coil. This last time it seems to be working pretty good again, but my carto tanks have been much more consistent and less fiddling around.

When it's working right it's great though, which makes it hard for me to stop messing with it.

Mine worked right out of the box. I got it two days ago and had to adjust one coil. After that, I followed the instructions from ZEN and wow, will never go back, except as a backup. I have tried almost everything, all the way to RBA dripping attys. This thing is working great. It is, however, not as portable as my other setups. You just have to be very careful with it. It looks great on my ZMax, like it was made for it. I had to use an extension (510/510) to make it fit on my eVic, but it looks great on that too. Thanks ZEN...
