My first dual coil

First crack at a dual coil build. 30 ga kanthan wrapped on a hd paperclip~1/16 ". Meters to 1.1 on an mvp. I like it, but I'm not sure this does much better warmth, vapor, or flavor wise over a single coil of 28 ga nichrome at the same resistance. I'm gonna give it a while to see if my impressions change. Btw, it's wicked with a single strand from an organic cotton ball.

Yep, it really is my first dual. I started off trying to wrap one of these. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=10917624. I couldn't get the middle loop to stay in place while wrapping. So I moved on to trying a dual. I really would've liked to wrap in opposite directions, so that the legs would run together, but I just can't get my fingers to wrap right going the other direction than these. Maybe if I get a jig, it could happen but not manually. For some reason, I just can't get the coils consistently tight and close wrapping towards me at the top, as opposed to away from me at the top.

You inspired me! (Well, you and being off work) I present you my first dual coil (in the rm2 at least). 30ga dual 7/6 wraps around 1/16 drill bit for a grand total of ~ 0.8. Wicked with silica unwrapped from my useless (at least in the rm2) 3mm ekowool and threaded through.

Didn't want to start my own thread, so I'll just hijack yours ;-)

That's why I did it. I have probably well over 75 feet of 30ga that I don't user anymore, so I figured let's try it. Once I (finally!) get my 26ga nichrome, I doubt I'll do it again, but at least I know I can...

That looks great. I didn't get the tilt to my dualie coils, but it works good. What's yours vape like? I still haven't decided if it's worth the extra effort. But it is cool and fun to try new things.

Mine are cell phone pics too. I definitely like my iPhone's camera. It'd be nice to get full frame, rather than a crop like these, but way better and easier than a point and shoot.

This is also where id like to experiment with expanding the air hole, but I don't have a spare rm2 to save my .... if I go too big or if I go back to single coils. That variable air hole gizmo pdib made would be great right about now.

It vaped pretty well. Good vapor, great flavor. I ended up changing it a couple hours those, just because I'm a silly person and I've been changing coils at least once a day, just goofing around. I need a spare rm2 for goofin purposes only. The rm2 is a lot different than the larger deck rba's I had. I had those drilled out to 5/64, but I don't think I wanna do it to this. Yet.

I had been pretty happy, but not blown away until this morning. I'm guessing I did something to the coils because a few vapes after changing the wick, I got a big drop in vapor--almost like the juice was incompletely vaporized. It's possible I flooded the coil, as I'd switched to dreamberries, which always seems to burn in the wicks. I tend to squonk a lot with that to avoid burning. My other guess would be a problem with one of the coils.

In a dual coil, if one of your coils has a problem, both should stop working, right? The are in series, correct?

It looks like you have them wired in parallel. If both coils have a leg in both posts then they are parallel. One could fail and the other would still work. I'd expect your resistance to climb when measured with an ohm meter if this happened.

Looking forward to trying that, but causing a short in my atomizer or melting the firing button has me cautious. Maybe I'll wait til the upgrade kits come out.
