My First E-Cig.... oh dear...

Hello all... thanks to everyone for the recommendations, I duly took the plunge and bought myself a DSE901 from e-cigs which turned up today! yippee!!

Now for the newbie questions... again..

I'm very disappointed to say that i'm not overly convinced now that i've had my first drag, although maybe i was expecting too much! Here are the issues I have...

1 the unit has a weird taste to it and I can't actually taste anything from the cartridge itself, no tobacco flavour at all. Will this go away? Is there anything I can do to get rid of the weird almost "new plastic" taste?

2 When I drag on it I get a weird gurgly sound which is kinda off putting! Will this go away with use?

Also, I think the nicotine has made me feel a bit rough.... lol Obviously as a tobacco smoker I wasn't expecting that, but wonder if it could be the instant pure nicotine hit or if its just the initial weird taste i'm getting!

Anyway, as you've probably gathered my first e-smoke has not been a raving success and I wonder if I am missing something! Any user guidance gratefully received, especially if anyone has had similar experiences when starting out which have now improved! I am obviously keen to give this a real go as I want a real alternative to smoking.

I just got my 901 on thu... so Im new too but I'm enjoying it a lot.
Also the taste wont be like a cig at all! It's pure nicotine + PG and water so dont expect it to be. I never noticed a plastic taste - maybe you didnt add in a new cart yet; they don't come with one installed already so make sure one is actually on! Also, I puked yesterday from nicotine OD - you can get a lot without noticing because it's easier to smoke than a cig.

Hi Brunette, It is quite normal for you to think that it tastes weird, when you first start it does taste weird, but this is something that you will get used to and fairly quickly. As for the gurgling sound, all atomisers make different noises, gurgling, whistling. Did you buy any flavoured carts ? I would recommend the strawberry and vanilla, I think they taste much nicer than the regular ones

Try different flavors. I like chocolate and apple flavors from Janty the most (I like them MUCH more than the taste of regular cigs). Others are just so so in my opinion and some I REALLY don't like. So don't judge e-cigs after just using one flavor and one brand. (I hated my first minicig).

hmmmm.... this is all rather confusing!! I was under the impression that tobacco flavour would taste vaguely like tobacco!! Silly me!

Has anyone tried menthol from smokester? I was hoping to have some close to real smoking at least initially so its not such a shock to the system!

You are not silly, I thought the same but the regular carts IMO do not taste like tobacco at all. The JC juice does taste a little more like tobacoo though. Take it slowly and get yourself used to it. Some people change over quickly and love it straight away, others take a bit longer, As shogun says few people love the taste immediately, with experimentation you will find what you like

Yes have tried the menthol, now that is an acquired taste !!! Get smokester's sample pack it has one of each flavour in it.

hiya brunette "my favorites lol" and welcome to the forum.
It may seem a little weird..but give it a week.. e-cigs are different to cigarettes but with in a few days a transition should accrue where you will begin to like it..and eventually for most the cigarettes become disgusting in conparison..hope this helps!

Got mine today too, same supplier as you! I also get a synthetic type of plasticky taste on the draw...tastes almost burnt. Bit worrying & don't know if this is normal?? Maybe this is just a 'breaking in' phase & the taste will improve?

I had ordered some of the totally wicked e-liquid from Pillbox (Malboro) - and I put a smear of it on the cartridge. I might be imagining things but it seemed to pep it up and it had a bit more hit & taste. But I still get a burnt undertone. (I'm probably going to go all yellow tonight and feel sick from a nicotine overload -lol).

I'm realising this is not smoking as I know it but you know - I kind of like it already, if onnnnly I could get rid of the burnt undertone or get used to it!! (Any tips welcome!)

On the plus side, it surprised me that the vapour production is so good! It's a thousand times better than the patch - stating the obvious here. Reminds me of sheesha smoking much more than it does ordinary smoking. I bought different flavours & just tried cherry. It's okay - very mild I thought. Needs some wiked! (Pillbox here I come again!) I still have some back up real cigs on hand but I just feel like I don't really need them tbh.

Think we must just persevere. These are just starting glitches. I keep thinking of the benefits. Hang in there - we'll get there!

Yeah, I now think of normal cigs as pretty disgusting

The gurgling sound can be annoying, but I find that's a small price to pay. Flavour is another matter. I'm currently trying Pillbox38's Totally Wicked Virginia-flavour juice and it's nice. He also sells super-strong juice (36mg!) which should definitely take care of any nicotine cravings although be careful as it's easy to overdo it. I think I'm taking in much more nicotine since switching to (regular) e-cigs!

Hi Ruby - glad i'm not the only one experiencing the dodgy taste!!! I keep trying it (will probably make myself ill from all the nicotine at this rate) but it doesn't seem to be improving! I have ordered some of the mixed flavour cartridges from smokester today and will see what they are like.

Strangely i'm drawn to purchasing the super mini now.... which is ridiculous considering I don't even like the taste at the moment, but perhaps the size will make it better.... lol (can't really see myself standing outside will all the smokers with my "mini" which isn't so mini in the flesh either!!)

I agree that there is plenty of vapour, although that doesn't really bother me one way or the other as long as there is something. Its the taste that is important as (no doubt everyone has said this as some point) I actually quite like the taste of my cigarettes!! I shall have to start hunting for the perfect e-juice/liquid by the sounds of things!!

Hi Denni - I have noticed that the nicotine levels seem to be high in a lot of the cartridges and liquids which is a bit worrying as I will be looking to get my nicotine intake down, not up!!

Is the Virginia supposed to be like Golden Virginia hand rolling tobacco, and if so, is it anything like it?!

the gurgling sound is usual a sign that the atomizer ceramic pot is getting flooded use an empty cart and dry smoke it..when the vapour production starts to diminish your good to go again.. and the gurgling will have gone.

Well, trying vanilla right now & I just don't know. Maybe bombarding my crocked up smoke destroyed taste buds with all these flavours is not so smart after all. I'm wondering if the smoking has damaged my sense of smell/taste so I get a slight cherry flavour on everything - or maybe I am just confusing a cherry flavour with a 'sweet' flavour...omg - can you tell I am confused...maybe its all the nicotine already8-o...

I just wonder if we start to find it better after a few days because our taste/smell is improving having stopped conventional smoking...? Maybe then I'll be able to tell my cherry from my vanilla.

Let me know how you like the flavours. If you are a heavy smoker you might find wikids 36mg fills a gap. I like it. I like it a bit too much methinks!

lol - sounds like flavour overload to me Ruby! I'm currently eating excessively to try and get that burnt taste out of the back of my throat! Unfortunately the eating makes me want to smoke so i'll get it right back again in about five seconds!

Maybe you should try one flavour a day?! I'd be interested to know how the marlboro works out as i'm keen to find something that actually tastes similar to a cigarette!

At the moment I'm just trying to avoid buying more stuff until my mixed flavour cartridges turn up... at least then I might get an idea of what flavour I actually like as "tobacco" tastes like burnt hair... lol
