thanks guys

I am in no doubt that I am now hooked on modding. My view on everything has changed to "ooh thats nice, can I get a battery in it" and "I don't think they will miss that chair leg anyway"
I have already wasted some money on things that looked good but once taken apart were not fit for purpose.
At least I can get a seat on the train now with my detonator clone :)

my perspective has changed similarly..although with me its more like:

"How big of a battery can i get in it?" :pervy:

I'm not the only guy who goes to walmart etc with a few li-ion battery sizes to check am i? i usually go with an 18650, 123a3.7v and a 14500 in case i see something interesting..then i can visualize that battery in it..or see why it wont go.

He he
I've started carrying a AA with me now rather than a 14500 just in case. Still waiting on the slow boat from china for my 18650's.

SmokinScott: the Energiser thing is a portable charger thingy I got on Ebay. It holds 2 x aa and comes apart completely for modding but is a bit flimsy though. Once I get my 18650 I will see if it fits (will need a little dremel work inside) then epoxy the case up.
Its basicly just the same as a nicostick but it feels great in the (my) hand

To be honest it's probably not worth the effort.
It feels nice in the hand but the time spent modding it compared to a AA box just isn't gratifiying enough. I built a magnum clone with epoxy in the end cap to hold the rca connector and an AA box in less time and both are more solid.
I even reconfigured the 3 x aaa battery slug for the torch to take 3 x 10440 in parallel (until my 18650's arrive) with less headaches.
If you're just going to use it as a battery pack there are other chargers that have larger capacity and smaller profile than this, just look through the posts here.
I paid £3.50 delivered for it and would say it wasn't worth it other than for experience sake
regards
Chris

Why did it take more time to mod the Energizer charger?

Looks like it gives you more space to play with, is there room in there for a kill switch and LED?

Reasons in brief but can give more info if needed

whole thing is very flimsy. held together by tabs which once opened dont seem as secure once reassembled especially the top.
have to run a wire to bottom connector for ground when using 1 battery.
Using a 14500 battery puts a lot of strain on the top. I will glue this in eventually but i'm waiting to see if I can get an 18650 to fit first
There is a circuit board in the cap with battery terminals on it. I tried desoldering the components from this but ended up making a new one.
On the plus side
There is plenty of room in there.
You could put a (small) switch in the space in the top section and then run 2 x 14500.
You could probably get a small slide switch in the end cap with a bit of work
