Bristow, Ok.
This ended up being pretty expensive. The flash lite was cheap enough but I had to buy a

soldering iron
solder,
wire
pliers
flux
drill
drill bits
rotary tool
wire stripper
switch
plus I tore apart a working battery

I am sure I bought a lot more stuff than this but I finally got it finished. It isn't very pretty but I am going to keep trying. I hope the next one looks better than this one. I would just be satisfied if it worked.

It took me many attempts to do the magnum mod. I had a few that were successful, that is until I tried to put it all into that tiny space and make it all permanent. I finally succeeded when I got a slightly larger flashlight - like 1/2 inch longer. Now I have two, and they sit unused on my desk because they are so large for my hands, and my pockets - I carry everything in my pockets. The second one is much easier and MUCH less exensive.

Good grief! Send me pictures of the funeral service for version 1, as pictured above.

Keep at it as there are few things more exciting than having your mod come together. You might try a box mod (i.e. nicostick, Jaxx's Juicebox) as these are much easier to build and perform just as well as a flashlight mod. Also look at youfillintheblank's Magnum box mod (http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modders-forum/10388-magnum-box.html). You could go with a slightly larger project box from Radio Shack and pack a pair of CR2's in there. This would give you more confidence and a better understanding of the design and build process.

I made a nicostick.I think it will work. I need to get the batteries. It went together pretty easy. I just got so spoiled to the 801 magnum that you made. I would like to give them to 3 of my kids and some of my friends. I can't afford to buy one for them all. Well maybe I could have with what I spent trying to make one. My husband told me not to be trying to make any more but I told him when we married that if he didn't try to make me obey I wouldn't try to make him obey either.

Here is my second magnum mod. It actually works awesome. I am so proud of myself. I may be on a roll now. I can't wait to make another. I am so thankful for Nicowolf that showed us how to make the nicostick and Breakfastchef that suggested I try this and Youfillintheblank's for the pictures that I copied.

Stormy: WELCOME TO OUR ADDICTION

Now that you have the soldering irons, and dremels, and neutered monkey rabbits and flux capacitors, you are over the initial expenditure. You'll be turning your ipod into a PV in no time. If anything, it really brings home the value some mods offer after factoring in 50-100 dollars worth of crap to make them, not even counting the time and learning curve. Also, that second attempt looks fantastic.

My first attempt caught fire while I was sleeping and set off my fire alarm. Don't feel bad.

I had so much fun with that first one. Not building it but driving my jeep over it. I knew I wouldn't leave it alone until it was finished. Well I goter done. I have made a few thing since then. I am now using a 6v box that I made. Breakfastchef came to my rescue with his suggestion. I got one of the big boys but it hasn't got back after the recall.

Wow Stormy I did not know you made a magnum and box mod until today.:) I missed this thread. I made a box mod and I discovered I do not have the patience. It makes me get mad at myself for not doing it right. I would still like to make a magnum someday!:D

If you really look at the pictures you will see that I never made a magnum. I tried really hard to make one. What I made was a magnum box. Maddog gave directions for making one that I appreciated but I couldn't follow. I can do simple things. If I have a picture and it says, solder this to this. I can do that. I just can't figure out ohms and amps and such. Some people are very creative and share their knowledge with us. If it isn't very simple (mods for dummies) it doesn't help me one bit. I can't watch a video even I am on dial-up. I have been trying so hard to get the creative people to get simple instructions for the rest of us. That is the whole purpose for the classes and tutorials. We can all do it with help. There are several easy to follow step by step tutorials now. I am just working on getting them organized so everyone can find them when they need them. I so appreciate everyone of them but I want more. I am not just being greedy but if you want to build something you might be able to follow another set of instructions better or you may use ideas from more than one design. We are all in this together.

Stormy I have watch both of maddog videos many times and still cannot do it. I need more hands on to do this. Step by step and nothing left out.
I need to see all the soldering and everything. He would leave some of this out. I think a step by step with everthing showing. I need someone to come to my house and show me:lol: and stay all day.

The problem is that soldering isn't really something that can be taught online - at least, not easily. I can tell you "tin your iron by melting a small amount of solder onto the tip, until it forms a thin layer on the iron", but you're not going to *know* "ok, that's enough solder" until you actually do it.

Calculating ohms and amps isn't hard - it's just knowing what numbers to plug in where. I'm more than happy to help anyone out with that - just drop me a PM.

That is a very kind offer. Thank you so much. Why not just post a new thread with all of the information and I will get it sticky for everyone. Just make it very simple for newbies.
