Hey all,

I've been a pretty loyal mech only user for quite a while now. On a whim I decided to jump into the TC crazy but I'm afraid I may have bought the wrong mod :(

I now have an ipv D2 and am reading that stainless steel coils don't work on it!

Are Titanium coils safe to heat?

Do you guys have any pointers for this? Is it worth keeping the D2 or should I have gotten something else?

The D2 is a decent mod but there are (IMHO) better mods for the same or less money. That said, there's no reason not to use titanium wire w/this mod. I personally have no issues w/nickel wire either, but that choice is a personal one and I feel it's best to let a person do their own due diligence before making a decision on what wire to vape with. It will be easier to use titanium for a couple reasons- it's easier to work with than annealed (soft) Ni200 and you'll need a coil having at least 0.05 ohms for TC and that is a fairly big (long) coil if using Ni200 28 gauge. 28 gauge is the smallest Ni200 I will use, smaller, like 30 gauge gets to be too much hassle to wick but YMMV.

Nickel or titanium shouldn't be heated to a red glow. I do dry burn both of them by carefully pulsing until I get the tell-take puff of smoke from the coil indicating the contaminants are gone, then I wick it to vape. Not all wire comes clean so if in doubt, pre clean your wire before coiling it.

I should mention, there's a way to use stainless wire. It involves using TC in titanium mode, then dropping the indicated temperature way down. I don't recall the specifics but if it was me and I wanted to try, I would start out in Ti mode and set the temp all the way as low as it will go and increase it until I liked the vape. You can research this if it sounds like something you'd like to try.

i find if i want to us a SS coil on my D2, lets say my SS coil ohms out to .30, i'll find an atty or topper with .20 build and lock that resistance. i'm essentially fooling the mod into thinking the SS coil has lower base resistance than it actually does which allows me to run my SS coil in Ti01 mode. works great for me.

Thanks! I think I need to stick with Ti as most in my family are allergic to nickel and I don't want to find out if I am by sucking in some nickel flavored vapor LOL.

What gauge/ diameter Ti would you recommend? Normally I use dual 26g coils for my dual RTAs and RDAs, and a single 28g coil for my mouth to lung RTAs.

i use 26 g Ti. i find it to be the sweet spot between 24 and 28. not too thick, not too thin. i went ahead and bought Spider Silk Ti. it's A little overpriced but i rarely change my coils. once i have a good build in something i keep it and just change the wick. i bought a "puck" with 15' of 26 g back in june and still have a lot of wire left. :2c:

Titanium is perfectly safe. Even though I have a lot of SS wire laying around, I usually default back to Ti coils eventually. Just don't dry burn titanium too much. You can pulse it in a dark room until it barely glows, then back off.
