Hello. I have been lurking for a while and this forum has been really useful.

I am using a IPV D2 with a Triton 2 tank and just purchased some .4 ohm coils from Mt Baker Vapor (They have treated me very well). Their site lists them as kanthal, and I talked to customer support and they verified that. Everywhere else list the same coils as stainless steel though, have the same black o-ring and I haven't been able to find .4 kanthal anywhere else. From my understanding, the IPV D2 doesn't support stainless steel. I have been using my IPV D2 in Joules mode to get step down to work with my higher ohm kanthal coils. I am new to sub-ohm vaping, so am taking safety seriously.

Would the Triton .4 ohm coils from MBV work safely in my IPV D2, and with the joules mode workaround? (I can't link the coils as I am new)

Your coils are fine MrThorton.
If you are setting joules, the device is in tc mode and you will also be setting a temperature. SS coils are my preferred coil as they work safely in either mode, wattage or/ TC. I do prefer the ss in power mode on my d2 fwiw.
but that's just me.

The Only real concern is mistakenly running ni or ti coils in power/wattage mode. Other than that there really is no concern.imho.
