I began vaping several months ago, when I ventured into a Sheetz gas station on my break and picked up a Blu disposable. I moved on to the Starter Kit, which didn't work out. Then Kanger Evods, Protanks, Egos and Twists, which were pretty nice actually.
Nobody vapes around here. The most that I ever saw as far as that goes is a few students at the college with cig-a-likes and ONE renegade with a CE4-style clearomizer. I had never seen a mechanical mod or VV device, except on the interwebs.
I love wristwatches with mechanical movements--I really think that this is why I was drawn to the mechanical mod-type of device. When I decided to try my hand at rebuildables, I looked into getting a cheap mech.
I always liked the little Pisces. A nice clone is usually in stock. I bought it, eagerly awaiting its arrival. When I opened the package, I was amazed at how innocuous and so damn LITTLE it was. I began playing with it, screwing and unscrewing the telescopic tubes, as my 18650 battery charged away on my new charger. I played with the new switch, and the shiny gold locking ring. I played with the locking ring, played with the locking ring...*expletive*I cannot undo the locking ring!!!
The ring was stuck in the 'firing' mode. I messed with it, on and off , for TWO DAYS!!!!Since man (and woman) historically has used TOOLS to remedy a situation, I thought 'well why don't I fetch my needle-nose pliers'. First one gouge in the gold plating , then two. Somehow, I wound up with a gold-plated splinter embedded into my left index finger. Way to go, you trend-setting vaping dork!!!
My poor mod, with the switch completely covered with gouges, scratches, and some blood from my thumb, could only be locked from firing if I screwed it apart. I kept trying to ratchet the locking ring counterclockwise, to undo it.
I think it was Aussie Vapers forum where I found out what I was doing wrong. I did not cross thread the pieces. I also did not entirely READ or understand 'reverse threaded locking ring'. A few moments after reading about this on the Aussie site, I got my locking ring undone, locked by turning CLOCKWISE. Another tip I picked up, is to lightly grease all of the threads when you first obtain your new mechanical mod.
I really liked that little Pisces, so I bought two more, plus a little Astro clone. The Pisces look like barbells, and the Astro looks like a fancy little can. I use that first mod as my 'guinea-pig' mod, to build gennies and rdas.
I don't know, is there really a moral, or point to this story? I guess make nice with a local brick-and-mortar store, if you are lucky enough to have one. Maybe start off with inexpensive clones from good vendors, and save the high end stuff for a little later. Pay attention to things like 'reverse threading' and 'telescopic' That is all from this noob

Yep, some mech mods have left handed threads on the locking ring. Well if nothing else, did get a chuckle from your post. The lefty lock ring makes it so one doesn't loosen the switch while unlocking it. Don't feel bad, laughed at the people who can't get their battery to reach contacts on the Nemesis too, they didn't read the part about removing the kick ring if not using a kick, for the tubes to fit properly.

Annie, the only people who haven't done things like that before are the ones who don't do things. I've spent decades in and around machine shops and if there's one thing I've learned it's don't use a bigger hammer on it until all other options have been exhausted and there's nothing left to lose anymore because it's not working anyway.

Of course, 'start off with inexpensive clones from good vendors' works for me too :thumb:

LOL! I know how you feel... it is the DOH effect. I wouldn't even try to count the number of them I have and still have. Vape gear is no exception. Don't feel bad that you don't see people with more elaborate devices. Remember that we are in the minority of the minority of people that are vaping. Seeing vapers at all is cool, seeing them with advanced devices, awesome! Good luck, be safe with that mod and have fun!
