My First Post / Crying Out For Help!!!

Hello Everyone, greetings from good old New Jersey!!

First off, I have to say that the plethora of e-cig information on this forum is absolutely amazing...but also a bit overwhelming. I guess that will wear off once I get situated :)

My girlfriend surprised me with a BLU (basic) starter set last week for my birthday. Before I opened the BLU, I smoked a pack of real cigs every two days for the past 6-7 years. Since the BLU, I have smoked 5. So it's definitely helping...

but....

I'm CRAVING that menthol throat hit that came with a nice deep pull of a Camel. The menthol that the BLU comes with is just..really disgusting to me. No hit...barely even a trace of menthol, more like mint. Actually, all of the flavors are kind of gross.I just can't offend my girlfriend and buy a new e-cig like a week after she gave me the blu!!

So my question is, as a new BLU/e-cig user...can you guys and gals PLEASE let me know if it's possible to somehow change the cartos to something with a SOLID menthol hit? Any info would be really cool, and if there are any threads that clear up my issue , please post em!!! Thanks everyone.

I have the same Blu kit.
The flavors pretty much ah... will do in a pinch. (Tried to be nice)
Tried Logic, V2, N7, nJoy and a couple others. None had that menthol hit I miss.

I second what Vapoor eyes er said. I would also, at a bare min. get the Blu 100 battery since the basic batts are junk. The good part is you can clean the Blu carts and refill them, plus they are 510 threaded (kinda the industry standard) so lots of batteries will work.

Hi, welcome to ECF and congrats. You could always buy blank cartos and bottles of juice and fill them yourself= much cheaper and opens up a whole new world of flavors...literally thousands. I buy menthol drops and add them to my juices. Be aware they are very potent.
I agree with vI would do a quick search on here to confirm before I started ordering stuff but from what I understand the one apor eyes, I believe the blu are 510 threaded so from what I understand it shouldn't be too hard to find easier to refill carto's for them. thing about the blu is that it doesn't have a proprietary threading.

Actually, all of the flavors are kind of gross.

That was my experience, also. The battery life on those is pants, also.

As mentioned, you can refill those cartos with other juice. The caps will come off, although the manufacturer doesn't want you to know that.

Good call on not offending the girlfriend. That could be disastrous.

Welcome to ECF and to vaping! Don't sweat all the lingo, technical stuff, etc. You'll pick it up pretty quickly.

Welcome, toastedmarshmallow! I'm from New Jersey too! And this is my third post, so we are in the same boat. This is all new to me as well, so I totally understand feeling overwhelmed.

So, the good news is, you are here. This is the best place to start learning. From all of the reviews I've read, and stories of people who've switched from analogs to vaping, it seems like the menthol smokers have an easier time finding good menthol flavors out there than people (like me) that are used to the regular ashtray tobacco flavor. I've been researching juices and pre-filled cartomizers (the filter part of the e-cig that contains the flavor) and there are a ton of great menthols out there and I am confident that you will find a menthol that you like. So please don't give up just because the blu menthol doesn't cut it for you - there are a vast world of choices out there.

Of course, that doesn't help in your current predicament. You girlfriend was very kind to get you a Blu starter kit. You don't want to offend her, I understand that. However, those little Blu batteries and the cost of the refills are going to really annoy you after a time. You will probably eventually want to look for something better and cheaper. You may also need something in a higher strength nicotine, depending on how much you smoke. I started out with the disposables and because they are usually all 1.8% (or 18mg), I felt like I was constantly sucking those things dry trying to feel satisfied. I finally ordered the 24mg disposables online (before I settled on a kit) and that did the trick for me. I got the "ahhhh" sensation I was looking for.

In theory, you could figure out what type of battery Blu uses, then get an adapter to use different cartomizers on your starter kit, but honestly, I would skip that step completely. It's just added expense for a battery that will eventually disappoint you. This is what I would do: explain to your girlfriend that you are absolutely thrilled with the Blu starter kit. She introduced you to a whole new world that is a healthier alternative and is shows how much she cares for you. Then explain that you've discovered how many awesome different menthol flavors are available online and you can't wait to try them all. Then continue to use the Blu until you can order something better. If you have a few analogs during this time to get by, so be it. You will be able to switch completely when you have the right equipment that works for you. Explain that the Blu is great and you simply want to add to your vaping experience by experimenting with new battery types and new flavors. I'm sure that she will just be super thrilled that you will be quitting cigarettes and honestly won't care what you use. As long as you no longer smell like an ashtray (no offense).

As for recommendations, it depends on if you really feel like you need or want a cigarette-looking e-cig, or if you could quit on something more like a personal vaporizer (pv). I went with the Ego Twist. If you need to start off with a more cig-alike, go with a standard 510 battery. It's compatible with lots of pre-filled cartomizers and blank cartomizers so you can add your own menthol juices. That way, with the one battery, you can try menthols from all the different companies out there. There are literally hundreds of types of menthol and far cheaper than the Blu pre-filled cartomizers.

So, that's the take of a fellow newbie. Since we are on the same path here, if you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Hi,
congrats on cutting down on the coffin nails, you've already taken the first step!! I think it's super nice you don't want to offend your g-friend by buying a new kit. If I were you, I'd tell her about this forum and put the bug in her ear that she has helped you to find a new hobby. Then maybe order yourself a new eGo spinner kit or something similar to use at home. Before you know it you will be stepping up again. And I think there's no way she'll have hurt feelings, she'll just feel good about herself b/c she started you on this new journey! :) Best of luck to you!

Take a look at what it will cost you to continue with the Blu. You will need more batteries as those little things will not last, look at the cost of buying the Blu carts. Compare this with what it will cost compared to buying real cigs. Then share this info with your girlfriend. Then compare these cost with some decent ego setups and buying juice online.

i did the above and am very happy with two ego minis, two vamos a China GG clone, various delivery devices and many bottles of juice.

Sorry I can't recommend a menthol, I never smoked menthol's, but the Blu menthol was one of my favorites of theirs.
