Anyways, my name is Jeff. I am not yet an esmoker but have been luring around a few days and am trying to pick out a good first kit. I'm not trying to spend a lot but wanting to get my feet wet. People have told me the riva is good, and I have looked at the apollo, but I don't like that the cartomizers are 15$ for a 5 pack which is kind of a lot when I have seen similiar carts for 8 for 5. I would like something that I can keep the old cartomizers to refill later if I get into liquid. Needing guidance!

Looking to stick around!

Thanks,
Jeff

These are just my opinions after vaping for a little over a month - but going about $500 deep on the whole experience.

Get a Riva 510 SE kit off of Liberty-Flights.com, you can't go wrong. Everyone I've recommended them to is happy, as am I. I prefer the Black slightly over the Steel, but both look great. Get a few LR 510 atomizers with the order, they're good.

The value of the Riva for performance is incredible. Also, save yourself some e-juice review reading and buy some nicquid from BackwoodsBrew.net, VapeRite.com, and AVEjuice.com. There are many other fabulous vendors, but I've bought from all three of these after reading reviews for hours upon hours and haven't had a juice I don't like.

If you're looking for huge clouds and hot juicy throat hits, buy a 306 atty from AvidVaper.com, they're the first step up I think you can make after the LR 510 attys that will pretty much have you vaping with nothing else, especially if you're into big clouds and strong flavors. They have an amazing $20 deal on right now for 2 306's and a drip tip. Well, well worth it. They last too.

Go Jeff, you can do it!

Oh and also, the best cartomizers (cartridge and atty all-in-one) are the Boge's. The Joye brand are also great, but require more effort to fill via a syringe or the condom method. YouTube it. Just make sure in both cases you give the juice enough time to soak the entire carto(mizer) so you don't get any burnt tasting nastiness and prolong the life.

Don't buy pre-filled anything. Waste of money and will more likely taste like ... than not. Buy good reputable juice to get started, it's easier than being disappointed and risking going back to regular cigarettes.

If you want something of a known and supported model that is similar to Apollo see Vapor4Life.com (their model is KR808D-1) or for cheaper kits see the standard manual KR808D-1 kit at LiteCigUSA.net. Shorty abtteries have short life (2-3 hours for a light vaper, 1/2 that for a heavy vaper). The standard batteries have 60% more charge. The xl batteries have even more but do not fit in the PCC.

Manual batteries are used and recommended by most people here. Especially with refilling cartos - if a carto drips it will drip right where the hole to the drag sensor is on an auto battery and you can damage the usability of the battery. Manual K8's still have a hole there but are not dependent on a drag sensor.

I don't know where you saw soft-cap prefilled cartos for $8. Unfilled yes. A few Chinese PG filled flavors, maybe. But the larger variety of prefilled cartos for 2-piece are over $10 for 5 for ones you know are soft-caps and can be refilled. The Vapor4Life prefilled cartos are soft-caps.

And you will be adding juice. And if you run them dry you can singe them and ruin them for refilling. If you keep a carto damp with juice you can get 4-7 days out of one though performance can decrease. After that some people have success with cleaning/drying and reusing them. However, some rebranders sell cartos with glued on or hard caps to make them harder to refill or clean.

The Riva lite kit from Liberty Flights is a great start. Lots of people find they don't want to upgrade from it. If you order be sure to take the 20% off at the top of the page. It'll bring the cost down to $29.99 plus shipping. And be sure to order some juice at the same time.

+1 on that cskent ... Couldn't have said it better

I would avoid the pre-filled cartos and just get some blank Boge cartos plus some juice to fill them. They seem to perform better than the pre-filled and as long as you keep them moist (take the soft rubber tip off and drip some juice in it a couple of times a day), they will last you quite a while.

Also, I second the comment about making sure you have quality juice. Believe me, it's worth the extra buck or two. Backwoods Brew is about the best juice out there in my opinion. The vapor production is excellent and the flavors are subtle, so you don't get sick of them.
