I finally ordered my first rba, the Orchid V3 from Angelcigs and while I await its arrival, I decided to do some more research. I didn't realize how confusing it would be for an old guy like me. I have 30g and 32g Kanthal and Silica wick and organic cotton...

I'm not looking to blow huge clouds, I just wanna vape and not smoke. I figure 1.5 ohms is good to start. According to the calculators I have found, that is like 9 wraps around a 2mm drill with 32g for each of the 2 coils. If I switch to 30g, its 14 wraps per side. Is that going to be OK with my Kato Box mod with an AW IMR 18650 Li MN 2000 MaH button top battery. I'm not interested in sub ohm builds, but that seems like alot of coil to fire.
Also, can I run just one coil in the Orchid or do I need to have 2. I have built a couple of coils just playing around and they seemed to work great in my EVOD. Thanks for any information you have to offer, my ears are open and I am open to try something different.

I have the Orchid V4 which is very similar (bigger tank is the major difference). I tried a few builds with dual coils with 30 ga wire, with a 1.1Ω total resistance, and they worked very well.

Wanted to try building it as a single coil, so I blocked off one air hole inside the chimney with a piece of a round toothpick. Used 30 ga on a 2.5mm shaft, 6/7 wraps for 1.8Ω, wicked it with cotton balls and it is fantastic. For me the dual coil was just too free a draw, not airy (lots of vapor) but just not the right feel.

I'm using mine on regulated mods and about 10-12 watts gives me clouds, great flavor, and still blows through eliquid
like it's leaking (it's NOT..)

I've not moved past the MVPv2 yet, so would this battery work for such a build better than a mech. My options would be the Kato, Tesla M2 or Paragon clones atm.

I have used it on my own MVP2 successfully, I like it because with a regulated mod, the vape is the same from a full charge, down to recharge time. I also have a number of mech mods and have used a similar build, just reduce the wraps by one and cut the resistance to 1.5Ω. The mech will work just fine, but I like being able to push a button and see how much charge is left on my battery without a DMM. I use a meter a lot but sometimes just feel lazy....:)

Right about blocking the airhole. Make sure you block the airhole on the unused side. I always do single coils on mine. Split the ends of the wick, and guide the 1/2 wicks between the posts to catch the juice on the unused side.
