Holy violent vapor Batman!

I built some dual coils with 30 guage kanthal that came out to .9 or 1 ohm on this same device, depending on whether you believe my SVD ohm results or those of my multi meter. I overdid the cotton wick on that build and it had to be redone anyway so I decided to make use of the 28 guage Kanthal that came in last week. This is on a Nemesis clone by hcigar with an Igo-w sitting on top. Yeah, that's a cheesy protank drip tip but I have a couple more coming in the mail.

Here is the new build. Dual coils with 11 wraps of 28 guage Kanthal on a small metal rod that is just a bit thinner than a 1/16' drill bit came out to .6 ohms. As if by some miracle both the SVD and the multimeter agreed this time. After accounting for the .4 ohms resistance present in the multimeter of course.

Here this nasty agressive thing is firing. I didn't plan this pic well, the ceiling fan was on high. Trust me, that thing was almost scarey.

I learned real quick to hit the fire buttton and draw hard for a few seconds then stop. Otherwise it's unbearable. It tastes good but the vapor is a bit warm. It doesn't taste burnt. It is just a different kind of vape. I've already drilled the two holes in the Igo out to 1/16". If I were going to continue building this IGO like this I might have to drill them out just a touch more. It was rough at first but once I adjusted my draw it's pleasant. The flavor (Gorilla Juice) is almost too strong from this thing. I will be tasting raisins all day long. I'll try a juice a like better once this is burnt up and respond below.

I may pull one of the coils out and bump this build up to 1.2 ohms. This fast, hard vape isn't necessarily my thing. Or is it? The more I play with this the more I like it.

Before I did any of this I checked my Sony VTC 4...no resistance in the battery according to my mm and 4.12 volts charge. For some reason my I4 typically charges the Sony batteries to 4.15. I charged it last night so I guess it lost .03 ohms just sitting overnight.

I already knew this battery could handle this build. I read, and read more and even more before I built this. I went to this link and ran all my numbers just to get in the habit. Battery mAh & C Rating = amp Calculator I have a folder full various battery safety topic links that I keep handy.

Anyway, just sharing how my experience went the first time I dropped down fairly low.

I do have one question, how in the world do you guys find the c rating of different batteries? I know most of them are listed at the link but for future reference I would like to know how to find it on my own. And another, when reading battery descriptions at different retailers website they don't seem to offer this "c rating" but do offer a maximum disharge rating. Do you feel comfortable trusting that information vs running the numbers yourself.

I'm glad I'm only using 6mg strength tobacco! A few bumps off this thing and you need a break in between!

The Gorilla Juice was used up so I dropped in some Black Ice, which I really like. Wow, that was pretty nice. It's not the relaxing kind of vaping I'm used to though. It's a lot of vapor at once and the flavor is outstanding. The GJ is something I'm not particularly fond of. I think I will be keeping this build on this one. With juice I really like the airflow is just fine. I have a couple other drippers on the way anyhow that I can build with ohms a touch higher.

I'm rambling, just wanted to share with others who may be wondering what all that sub ohm stuff is about how it went for me the first time, in real time while I tried it.You certainly don't have to "try" to get a hard blast. It's all there and a few seconds long pull produces much more vapor than I'm used to.

Time will tell if I keep liking this lower ohm setup. I think it's a bit much for me but with the right juice, one I really like it was pretty nice. There is a big difference between 1 ohm and .6 ohm. I'm not into the chasing coulds thing really but the flavor is really nice. Everyone should have at least one dripper if only to try out new juices. It's nice not having to change wicks and clean everything whenever you try something new. I've even found myself dripping a couple different flavors in there together to see how they taste together.

Happy Vaping,

TC

I do have one question, how in the world do you guys find the c rating of different batteries?
Much like calculating the basic continuous current discharge (CD) of a battery when all you have are the 'C' rating and mAh value...

Example: 15 'C' rating. 2000 mAh = 2 amps ~ 2 amps x 15 = 30 amps CD.

You can calculate a simple 'C' rating if you have maximum CD and mAh values... functionally, a "proof" of the former.
Again, we convert mAh to amps (1600 mAh = 1.6 amps), then divide CD value by amps. This is the 'C' rating.

Example: 30a CD, divided by 1.6 amps, equals an estimated 18.75 'C' rate.

Is this accurate? Mathematically, yes. However, variables (battery chemistry, build quality and manufacturer honesty, to name a few) have an effect on any performance linearity and proportion... so from that perspective, it may not jive with a manufacturer's rating.

To quote a fellow in Australia who's comments I find to be generally accurate and objective...
"Most label values of C are optimistically high and consistency between manufacturers is lacking. There is no agreed standard for measuring C and many manufacturers use a single value across a range of batteries when in fact it may vary with size. C rating has very largely become a marketing ploy rather than a reliable measure."

I have no idea all about sub-ohm'ing but i just wanted to welcome you to ecf. The information is wonderful but it is the people here that makes it so special. Congrats on your build. Maybe I will get there one day. I have been vaping for over a year and I thought I had it under control but I got a reo and it is a whole new heaven. Dripping is the ultimate. Good luck to you and happy vaping.

Thank you Rat2chat2.

It's crazy isn't it. I know what you mean about thinking you have it under control. I tweaked my first Kangers out as much as I could and got some nice vapor from them. Then I got this Russian and it is usually my go to for on the run vaping. When I have some leisure time nothing beats the flavor from dripping. I can't see me going any lower in ohms but if I hit this setup hard and fast I can get a wonderful, flavorful huge cloud of vapor. If I draw on this like I do my Russian then I will stop enjoying it so much.

You are so right about the flavor from dripping.

My wallet is warning me to stop looking at those Reos...
