Hey everyone.
Last night I got real motivated to try it and I built a new wick/coil assembly for my Vivi Nova.
I know, the Vivi Nova is not technically a rebuildable, but Youtube suggests otherwise. So I tried it.
I can definitely tell it was my first time wrapping the coil. I used 2mm wick and 30ga kanthal. Ohms came out to around 2.7 which is much higher than what I normally buy ((1.8) I'm still waiting on my rba, so please forgive me still buying heads.)
The hit is a little weird and I'm not sure why, but I plan on attempting to make another one in my more preferred ohm range.
Also with the silica wick, it came twisted (???? best way I can describe it) and I unraveled it thinking 'this will pick up more eliquid!'
Not the case, flavor is a little weak and vapor productions is much less than a bought atty head.
The nicotine hit is definitely still there. I have never gotten light headed from vaping until I tried this.
Overall, I'm glad I at least tried it. I was even practicing some microcoils (Youtube makes it look so easy!) and I can't really use them yet.
Wish I could post pictures, but I'm haze gray and underway. Go Navy.

Thanks for all the information so far ECF goers.

I've wanted to try using cotton, but since it was my first go I thought I'd just stick with the silica. I will update again if I do try the cotton and it is more successful.

I'm using a LavaTube Mini. I've found that I can get an almost decent vape at around 5.5 which is I think the highest I've ever vaped at. No problem though, LEARNING EXPERIENCES.

So UPDATE!
The cotton idea really sparked some motivation in me. I attempted 3 coil/cotton builds. The first one was .3 ohms, which almost convinced my lavatube to change it's occupation. Second one was 1.3 ohms, which is getting closer to what I wanted! But still to low for my lavatube to fire. My last one I got real ballsy and did, I only half trust my counting skills, 14 wraps. It came out to 4.9 ohms, which my Lavatube attempted to fire, but it was way too high of resistance and 6 volts wasn't enough. Plus I didn't want to destroy my battery so I just put my stuff away. My friends that were watching me said I was crazy, and I told them to not judge me because I was having fun. They had their laugh and then meandered somewhere else.
All in all, getting opportunities to build coils and wick them is a blast. I can't wait for my IGO-W to get in so I can work with that. Now to figure out how many wraps I need.

Good thing I am in the new members section for this question: What tool and size of tool should I use to wrap coils on? I know a lot of people use drill bits I just for the life of me remember which one I've seen people use.
