Hey everyone. I'm new to vaping and I have been a smoker for ~7 years now. I'm excited to get into this and i just want general advice from experts. I was introduced to vaping about a month or so ago when i went over to an old buddies house and he had a new room mate who had a couple of e-cigs. They were eGo TWISTS with Kanger Evod clearomizers. He had about 20 bottles of flavors to go with it. I didn't have my pack of cigarettes with me and I didn't have an urge for one the whole night because everyone was sharing these e-cigs. I started thinking to myself...hmmm maybe i should give this a try?? So i asked him for some info and I have gone ahead and purchased my order: A 1000mAh eGo TWIST (from what I have read, this is a pretty solid choice) and a Kanger Evod clearomizer, along with a couple of e-juice flavors that i purchased from mt. baker vapors website. All of this stuff will be arriving in the mail within the next day or two and I'm very excited. But i have a bunch of general questions and I want to take a break from doing some research. So if anyone can answer any of these questions, I would really appreciate it

Should i buy several clearomizers so i can rotate different flavors? Or should i just buy a bunch of replaceable coils and wash out my tank each time i switch flavors?

What is the best method for steeping and is it necessary for every e-juice i purchase?

How much money does this habit cost annually compared to smoking cigarettes (i'm smoking around 1 pack a week now, used to smoke a pack a day in college)?

How much upkeep is there with this habit? Am i going to have to constantly be purchasing components in order to continue doing this?

How long will a little 15ml bottle of e-juice last me? I wont be puffing on this thing all day, but i'll definitely be hitting it up every couple hours or so, and even more so when i'm drinking.

*super noob question* What is the sweet spot that i'm striving for, and how do i know if i'm achieving it? Should there be a lot of vapor? should it taste really good? What should i be expecting?

If anyone can give me just any simple advice or bring up anything that i haven't mentioned, that'd be awesome. I'm pretty confident that i've made a solid choice in this investment and i'm excited to get started soon!
Hope to hear from you guys!!

Cheers,
-Kevin

Well Kevin welcome to the world of vaping first off!!!! and thats a good choice my friend thats what i started with as for the multiple heads it can work that way but can be kinda tedious so if your lookung to test alot of flavors id reccomend getting yourself a atomizer to dosome testing, as for steeping cold dark places in my opinon, and for me vaping is not only something to help me but it also becomes a hobby haha so it can get quite expensive just depends on you and what you want if you want to try new devices and new juices and all the awsome cool vaping stuff then yes but it definetly will be cheaper in the long run and better for you then the anologs. so once again welcome to the vape world and enjoy it!!!

First off, welcome to the party, Kevin. It looks like your friend gave you some solid advice on a decent setup as well. The twist is a solid good first (and for lotsa folks it's all they need) ecig, and the EVODS are great toppers, requiring little fuss, if at all.

Some answers to the questions:

I'd suggest you get at least 2-3 evods as well as some extra heads for them. The extra evods are more for the ecf mantra of "backups for your backups"
Same would go for getting another twist as well, that way you can have one to vape while the other is charging.

Yes, just a simple rinse will clean out the old flavor, but sometimes you might get a stubborn flavor (menthols sometimes do that), in that case, rinse it, then give it a quick dunk in some grain alcohol (80 proof or higher, cheap vodka is great for this!)
Also, when you change the head, give it a good rinse in hot water, then I let mine sit overnight in a shot glass of that same cheap vodka. Let them dry, and good as new.
Check out pbusardo's review of the evod on YouTube, covers almost anything you'll ever need to know about them.

As for the how long will 15ml last, it's rough to say, a lot depends on what mg/ml the juice is, and how often you vape. In an evod, I'd say you might get a week or so per 15ml, but everyone vapes differently.

For the "super n00b" question... General rule of thumb is you add 2 to the resistance of your atty (the evod heads should state somewhere)... So for a 2.0 ohm head, you'd vape somewhere around the 4v range. Flavor should be good, but that's relative to you, as well as the juice itself, as tastebuds vary... Vapor is more a variable related to how much vg is in the mix. Higher vg= more vapor.

Hopefully, wasn't too much to take in, and hope it all was a help to you. Stay strong and vape on!

Tapped out on a phone... I think

Should i buy several clearomizers so i can rotate different flavors? Or should i just buy a bunch of replaceable coils and wash out my tank each time i switch flavors?

You could do it either way, but if you have several clearos you will be able to have several juices ready to go at any time. You'll find that's what most of us do. Just looking at the table in front of me, I have 5 devices on 5 batteries. Two are 1300mAh twists, two are mechanicals, and one is a Vamo V2. It's better to change flavours during the day when you vape as much as I do, because your taste buds take a holiday if they get too much of one thing constantly. This is bad news for a vaper, because then everything taste the same (and it's not nice).

What is the best method for steeping and is it necessary for every e-juice i purchase?

Steeping? Just leave it alone.

Some, especially tobaccos, get better after a few weeks and the flavourings blend. Some flavours get more muted, some become stronger or change character. You'll get to know - don't sweat the small stuff.

Basically though, if a juice is bad when you get it, a few weeks isn't going to make it taste like ambrosia. Your tastes may change though, so don't be surprised if you like different things in a few months time, or even a few weeks.

How much money does this habit cost annually compared to smoking cigarettes (i'm smoking around 1 pack a week now, used to smoke a pack a day in college)?

I used to smoke about $40 of rollie tobacco a week. I can now make 100ml of DIY juice for less than $6 and that lasts me some unknown amount of time between 3 and 4 weeks. I don't really care, because the main thing is that I'm not smoking and getting 4000 nasty chemicals that I'm pretty certain were killing me slowly. I only hope I stopped in time, because I've been smoking for 35 years. I do DIY to keep the costs down, but if I couldn't I'd still be vaping bought juice, but paying a lot more for it.

How much upkeep is there with this habit? Am i going to have to constantly be purchasing components in order to continue doing this?

That's up to you. I make all my own coils and wicks for a few cents, make my own juice, and I've found I'm quite happy with my Vamo, Twists, and a few Protanks and T3Ss. Occasionally I try new things. I'll probably get a few Protank 2s and mini Protanks and call it quits for a while. We'll see. Maybe I'll try some ITaste VV V3's as VW replacements for the twists. Maybe get a Vamo V3 or an SVD... it's a hobby.

How long will a little 15ml bottle of e-juice last me? I wont be puffing on this thing all day, but i'll definitely be hitting it up every couple hours or so, and even more so when i'm drinking.

I vape a lot. Maybe 5ml when I'm home on the weekends. When I'm working, maybe 2 or 3 ml and I'm down to 10ml/mg liquid. When I started I was vaping a lot more, now I sometimes forget to vape. Goods days... Bad days... YMMV

*super noob question* What is the sweet spot that i'm striving for, and how do i know if i'm achieving it? Should there be a lot of vapor? should it taste really good? What should i be expecting?

That is a noob question. It's different for everybody. Some people like a lot of vapour, some people just like a big throat hit, some people just do it for the flavour. There's extremes in all of these, and one of the good things about DIY and rebuilding is that you can tailor the vape to how you like it, whether it be straight down the line or something crazy. I'd advise you get the straight down the line stuff right first, then worry about crazy if it interests you. Don't worry, you're on the right track.

If anyone can give me just any simple advice or bring up anything that i haven't mentioned, that'd be awesome. I'm pretty confident that i've made a solid choice in this investment and i'm excited to get started soon!
Hope to hear from you guys!!

Yep, you need backups. Spare clearos, spare heads for the clearos, spare juice, a spare battery charger, and more batteries.

Don't worry it will become obvious once you start what you need. The main thing is to make the start, then the next thing is to make sure you don't run out of anything. Heads can last 1 - 2 weeks, but less if you burn them. That and more juice are probably the things you are going to need to get next.

A 1000mAh eGo TWIST (from what I have read, this is a pretty solid choice) and a Kanger Evod clearomizer, along with a couple of e-juice flavors that i purchased from mt. baker vapors website.

Great starter kit!!

YES!

What is the best method for steeping and is it necessary for every e-juice i purchase?

Not EVERY juice, but most. Almost certainly with Mt. Baker Vapor juice, from my experience. A few vendors have "presteeped" juice, like NicQuid. And some stock some juice, like Halo - but to be safe, you should count on new juice sitting for a week or two...

How much money does this habit cost annually compared to smoking cigarettes (i'm smoking around 1 pack a week now, used to smoke a pack a day in college)?

Depends on whether you buy a new gadget every week, and on whether you buy "premium juice" that can cost $1/ml, or make your own that can cost $0.03/ml. And on how much you vape. But if you try to save money, you definitely can save money!

How much upkeep is there with this habit? Am i going to have to constantly be purchasing components in order to continue doing this?

You'll need new coils for your clearomizer, for like $1 each. They will last probably a week or two. And juice. You CAN even buy wire and wick and "rebuild" those coils for far less - if you like to tinker. It's tiny stuff, but a lot of people do it... MOST people spend a bit experimenting until they find a juice tank they like, or getting bigger and better batteries, and then exploring the wide world of juice. You did good starting with a good battery and a good clearomizer...

How long will a little 15ml bottle of e-juice last me? I wont be puffing on this thing all day, but i'll definitely be hitting it up every couple hours or so, and even more so when i'm drinking.

A lot of people vape more heavily at the beginning - cutting any cig cravings, and just enjoying the new hobby! You can expect possibly to go through a couple ml's per day, easily - and don't freak out if it's 4 or 5 either.

*super noob question* What is the sweet spot that i'm striving for, and how do i know if i'm achieving it? Should there be a lot of vapor? should it taste really good? What should i be expecting?

If you mean the voltage - just start low, and turn it up til you're getting good vapor and flavor. Then if you turn it up a bit more, at some point it'll taste "burnt" - that's too high. Simple as that. And some juice needs a higher setting than other juice, and some clearomizers or coils need a higher setting than others - that's why variable voltage is a good thing.

If anyone can give me just any simple advice or bring up anything that i haven't mentioned, that'd be awesome. I'm pretty confident that i've made a solid choice in this investment and i'm excited to get started soon!

The best advice I got when I started out was to find some juices that will satisfy your urges and keep you away from traditional cigarettes. Trial and error with flavors,PG/VG ratios, nic strength, battery, juice delivery systems is something that all new vapers go through. You will find a setup that will work for you and remember, ECF will be here to help and guide you.
