My head is swimming with all the VV stuff out right now. And the stuff I read hasn't seemed to help.

See, my situation is a little different. I'm not looking for really high voltages with HR atties. I'm just looking to use the SR and LR I already have.

I want to add just a little extra heat to SR to make it better. And, ideally be able to also use DC on the same device too. But, if necessary, I can do without that.

So, even the LT 1.0 might do for me. Except that I've heard of some leaking issues! See, my SR atties are used for dripping. Cannot have leaking issues with dripping!

Any advice?

At this point, I'm thinking maybe I should just forget about VV mods and just get a few Twists.

I have a twist and a Provari. I like the twist very much but I still like my provari much more. I use the twist in places that the provari is just too heavy, bulky, and too expensive to risk. It comes down to how much you want to spend. With the twist you can get one in the $22 to $30 range so if it doesn't work out then not a big loss.

Also I'm not sure I understand why the battery or battery housing could cause a leak. If it leaks then isn't it the fault of your atty or cartomizer.

The Twist would do what you want it to do as long as you don't go below 2 ohms and expect the voltage at the coil to be what you dialed on the end of the battery.

The Appollo comes in a VV version and looks very similar to the E-power. The Lavatube has a 2.5 amp limit, but there's a 4 amp version about to come out. You might want to wait for that one if you want to be able to run higher voltage on LR coils. Standard resistance atomizers in the 2.5 to 3 ohm range will work fine on the Twist and the current Lavatube. When you get into scale back of the voltage is with 1.5 ohm and 1.7 ohm dual coils.

Cozzcon has done quite a few reviews of various VV models. You might want to watch some of his evaluations. In the one below, he does a voltage test with the Twist using different coil resistances.

Provari is way out of my price range right now. Otherwise, I would have no decision to make. I'ld just buy a variety and try them all!

Whatever I buy needs to be no more than about fifty dollars. So: 2 Twists, LT 1.0, or Vari-Stack. I might be able to swing $70 and get a LT 1.5. But, that's really pushing it to the limit.

But, do the LT's or the Vari-Stack have any leaking issues when used for dripping?

I "liked" your post just because I got a kick out of the sig. :)

I was a very heavy smoker, so it made it much easier to reach the break even point, simply because I had been spending so much on cigs. For awhile, I experimented a lot, but once I found stuff that I liked (a lavatube, liquinator tank, kanger horizontal cartomizers, and Boba's Bounty) my spending dropped quite a bit. Now I mostly just order carto's and juice in fairly big batches.

I need to order some juice, (and possibly carto's, not sure) but right now, I haven't spent a dime on vaping in over a month.

The battery housing wouldn't CAUSE a leak. But, I remember reading something on ECF about at least one of the LT's getting liquid inside the battery housing. The recommendation was to seal it somehow (with epoxy or whatever). And, I'm not particularly handy. So, best not to buy something like that as long as there are other choices out there.

Thank you. Very useful information.

I actually had reached the break-even point at one time. Then I started having problems with what I had been using, a couple of bad batches of atties (from more than one vendor). I finally got so frustrated that I gave them all away (all 15) and started experimenting again.

Right now, I plan to go back to what I had been using more or less. But, this time I'm going to buy only the very best 306 atties!!!!

In the meantime, I've discovered all kinds of neat new stuff. It's been interesting.

Ok I see what you're saying. Attys have a potential to leak, just the way it is but your saying some "manual PVs" are not properly sealed around its casing?

obviously you don't want defective equipment but doesn't a drip shield prevent any liquid from leaking out? I dont really drip much so I dont know.

Exactly.

That's what my brother just suggested. Sounds like a good idea. I'm just not used to using a drip shield. Guess I could give it a try though.

However, at this point, I'm strongly leaning towards the Twist - at least at first. That way I can find out if I really even need VV before I get something bigger and more expensive.

I don't own an ego twist but I do own 2 Vtubes (lavatube). Unless you are planning on running dual coils sometime in the future, the lavatube/vtube/etc. wouldn't let you down. The ego twist I would imagine would also work fine if you just want to test to see if you need a VV. The only thing is: the lavatube has a replaceable battery, and big battery mods tend to be able to handle lower resistance stuff better. So if you're always planning on running your LR stuff on the ego twist, it might kill that battery faster. Just something to consider!
