Hey ECF,

New here, been vaping a little over 5 weeks now. I started with a White Cloud Cirrus 2 kit, now I also have an Ego-T. 5 weeks and I have 16 different flavors, several cartos, a stardust and a DCT. I see lots of hate for the White Cloud brand because they are so overpriced, but I have to say it worked wonders for me and did exactly what I needed it to do. I see lots of stories about people getting frustrated with vaping, so I think it was worth the money. Yes, I had to get something with more power and vapor, but I blame that on the engineer in me and not a shortcoming of the WC. Maybe a plain ol' 808 would have done the trick, but its done now anyways so I will not fret spending so much to get started. The good news is that I have not had one desire to smoke and I cant see any reason I would ever go back. If these things are outlawed tomorrow I will become a criminal overnight. Now for my newb question.

Why are we still calling these things e-cigarettes? I get a few congrats here and there, but mostly, "...so you haven't really quit." I understand it helps get more smokers on board, but I dont see any smokers trying to ban vaporizers. I have started telling people it is my nicotine vaporizer and I get a much more positive response from non-smokers.

Greetings from Canada! Welcome to ECF!

I call them that for the same reason this Forum is called what it is; so that people will know what I am talking about. Even if I decide to call it a 'silk purse' I will have to spend more time explaining it than if I used terms that people are familiar with.

Relax, Enjoy!

I understand what you are saying and I agree. Perception is huge and as long as the general public thinks they are cigarettes, electric or otherwise, they will have a built-in negative perception of them. I would love it if they were called something else, but so many vendors have e-cig in their name, on their sites, etc. It's going to be an uphill battle to change things, but I agree that it needs to change.

By the way, welcome to ECF!

Welcome and congrats. Most folks around here don't use the term"e-cig", it's a "PV" (personal vaporizer). Most folks also don't consider vaping a smoking cessation program, but a more healthy alternative to smoking. Someone had a signature quote that went something like, "only way to beat a bad habit is to replace it with a better one...".

I started on little stick batts (cig look a likes), payed way more than I should've, but haven't had a cigarette in almost 140 days (after 33 years 1.5PAD). Bottom line is that what ever works for you is good. Of course the quest for the ultimate vape never seems to end, but that's half the fun :)

Welcome,

First of all congrats on quitting smoking and starting vaping, I guess they are called e-cigarettes because they started with the pen style types that look like cigarettes, but now most look nothing like cigarettes and have adopted the preferred name of "personal vaporizers" PV. It seems a move to distance ourself from smokers and to distinguish ourself as vapers as we say "I am not smoking, I'm vaping".

I just call them e-cigs if brought up in general conversation, most people just seem too fascinated with it that they don't care what it's called, they just think it's cool.

I have found this to be more true then people thinking negative about them being called elc-ciggs.. they are facinated by the flavors we vape and always want to try it out , know where we got our kits, cost of juice, ease of use and so on ... i enjoy taking the time to explain
