My introduction and a question

Hello all, I've been here a few times seeking help with my set up and figures I might as well register and introduce myself.
I'm Jessica :) I smoked my last cigarette on December 28, 2013. I started out with a $20 blowone thing before a friend who works in a vape shop recommended a new one. I now have (have had since Feb) an itaste MVP2 and a kanger protank 3 and about 30 coils because my recommending friend doesn't smoke or vape and was told by a coworker that the coils need changing every day. I currently waiting for wick and wire so I can rebuild most of then because I'm finally down to 5.
Amyway, I've been here a few times seeking answers to my billion questions and ha e for the most part for the answers, by far this is the most helpful forum I've come across. But I have a question that as far as I can tell is unique to me. This past week or so ever time I connect my tank to the battery the ohms go up. Usually it starts out at 2.0 but new coil this morning said 2.1. The one I had changed out was new on Saturday with 2.0, Sunday it read 2.1, I turned it off for a few hours and it was at 2.3 when it came back on. Off Sunday night 2.4, 2.5 the next morning and so on until I had enough of nothing hits. I keep all the parts clean and it's very well taken care of as I can not replace anything right now. I have 50/50 juice and 70/30 it doesn't seem to matter

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated because it's getting annoying.
Thanks!

I would try replacing that coil. Seems to me that it might be faulty. That can happen with these stock coils. They really are hit or miss. Also, coils don't have to be replaced everyday. I replace mine every 3-4 days depending on the juice. It is smart to rebuild your coils. They will perform better and taste better than stock coils. I use 30ga kanthal for the coils and organic cotton for the wick.

What voltage and or wattage are you running it at. Could be it isn't high enough and the coil is getting clogged.

I have had resistance go up and down but not like what you are seeing. Could also be a problem with the iTaste MVP. It might have a fault in it that is creating higher resistance.

Try a different battery system or a second MVP.

Welcome to the forums Jessica, in theory coils as they age will go up a little over time. I have not gad many 2.0 ohm stock coils either read accurate out of the pack normally +\- 1 ohm. I would check your mvp connection and clean it with a cue tip incase it's dirty. Possibly a little juice is getting on your connection through the day making the resistance go up.

You don't have to change your coil every day. Every 3-4 should be good or till you see the ohm resistance increase, which indicates the coil may be going bad or till you start getting a funny taste (burnt) I use to rebuild my PTs as well with 30g kanthal and organic cotton and like it better then the stock coils, plus it will save you some money. The stock coils can go bad without warning and behave just like you described, once you start rebuilding you will discover why. Try checking with an ohm meter or another device.

Hello all, I've been here a few times seeking help with my set up and figures I might as well register and introduce myself.

Hi Jessica and welcome to ECF and to vaping. Great to see you're posting now :)

I've never used Protanks but I did for a while use Vivi Nova clearos. IMO learning how to clean and dry burn these heads is your best bet all around. I've had heads last me months, but weeks are more the norm which is still way better than days. After you can't dry burn them anymore you can recoil and wick them.

I did a quick Google search and found this video on how to do it. It's really not hard and if it's like the Vivi Novas are it can be done many times before the head needs to be rebuilt.

The head the guy is dry burning was not gunked up much initially. If you try this with one that didn't perform well anymore you'll have to dry burn for a lot longer than he did to get the coils to all glow. That's OK, continue pulsing until all coils are lighting up. Be careful not to get the body of the Protank too hot or you'll damage parts in it. When it gets hot, just wait until it cools and then continue the process. Dry burning them before they get too bad is in my experience easier and faster than letting them get really bad.

The only thing that can go wrong is if you hold the power on for too long the coil will melt and then it's toast. You can still recoil and wick later, but you can't use it again until you do that. It happened once to me and then I got the idea and I've never popped a coil since :)

Anyway, I've been here a few times seeking answers to my billion questions and ha e for the most part for the answers, by far this is the most helpful forum I've come across. The juice won't matter for this issue. This is very likely all about the head so replace it. I think you have 4 or 5 new ones. You also have a bunch of used ones you can clean and dry burn and make as good as new.

Whatever you try, let us know how it goes.

Thanks so much for all the great answers and welcomes!
I have been cleaning my heads and center post often, ever few days or so. I did learn about dry burning from here so I've been doing that as well. I usually get 3-4 weeks on one head, that's why this new issue of the heads going so fast prompted to ask.
I have found that 7.5 watts seems to work best for me.
I am currently waiting on a package with 32g kanthal and organic cotton wick. I have watched a ton of rebuild videos so I'm pretty confident in my ability to rebuild them.

If you have been cleaning your heads then I would say that it is most likely a faulty coil. I am not sure about the heads you have, but the Kanger heads have a rubber insulator and I have found that the silica coil wick and that insulator don't handle dry burning all that great. The few times I have dry burned, it always made my juice taste burnt afterward. So I just rebuild them with 30ga Kanthal and cotton. I have plenty of coils in rotation and just switch them out every couple days. After a accumulate a few I sit down for about an hour, rebuild them, and back into rotation they go.

Also I think I remember having the same kind of issues when I first got everything and came here looking for others with similar problems and read there might have been quality control issues with the kanger coils.

QC is an issue with kanger. If you do get bad coils make sure the lead isn't poked through the insulator. I had several do this, sent an email to kanger with pics and they sent me replacement coils.
