When someone asks me for a light I don't have one anymore. I carried a lighter for decades and still reach for it in my pocket out of reflex sometimes. When I get home and empty my pockets there is something missing. I may have to start carrying a small flashlight since I don't have a lighter to help get the key in the lock or find my way across a dark room. When I'm out I don't know what to do with loose threads except pull on them since I can't burn them off. I can hear that clinking noise of a zippo really clear in my head. The light callous on my right thumb is going away. I have a whole bunch of bic lighters in my emergency drawer. I buy them often because an article rings in my head by someone that wrote about their experiences in Serbia. He said that after the collapse the most valuable thing they had for barter was a bic lighter so they could stay warm and cook, they were more valuable than gold. I miss my lighter but am not going to carry one anymore, but I will probably have one not too far away.
