This has happened twice to me actually. Both times I thought it was a wicking problem and I was getting a dry/burnt hit, but this didn't seem to be the case after further examination. I use a Lemo as my rta and if you pop the drip tip off you can actually see your coil/build pretty clearly and the wicks looked saturated; I still drained my juice and took it apart both times and couldn't find any issues that would cause such a problem. Since I've never had anything like this happen to me when I've used store bought/vendor liquid, I'm assuming it has to be my DIY stuff (I'm new to the diy thing, just started mixing a few weeks ago). Is it possible that the flavoring in my liquid is somehow separating when in a tank? I always give my bottle a good shake before I drip, so maybe this is why I didn't have an issue like this on my RDAs. Maybe I need to mix it better (I just give a few good shakes in the bottle every once and a while) or let it steep more. Any advice or insight would be much help. Thanks.

I recently had an issue similar to this. In the end it turned out to be the version of marshmallow I was using. For me TFA was always good but I started trying the FW variant. As it turns out the FW variant for me gives off this unappealing taste on exhale. Once removed from my recipe it was good. For some reason it was less noticeable on the RDA. It seems it should have been the other way around. But when it went into my Atlantis it was like a punch in the face LOL.

But like dave_in_ok says a lot of times for me it's the recipe percentages as well. I just try to make them the best I can for the gear I use and always test on both setups, tweaking as necessary.

I really don't aim for a specific ratio but I guess on average I'm somewhere around 70% VG, +/- 5%. The tank and dripper I'm using are both wicked with rayon with around a 0.5-0.6 ohm resistance. The switch from the rda to the rta seems like the most logical explanation, I've encountered plenty of store bought/manufactured liquids that I like only in my dripper or visa versa. In general, flavor is more concentrated and/or noticeable in a dripper compared to a tank (for me anyway), so maybe thats why is seemed decent with the RDAs. I'm using Mt Baker Flavorings right now as well, which like MBV stock liquids, aren't exactly gourmet or high end, I plan to order flavorings from some other more "accredited" diy flavoring companies in the very near future. Guess I just gotta work my through the trial and error period and accept that there are going to be some misses.

It's possible that you have too much flavouring in your liquid for the tank.
You could try diluting some liquid 50-100% with plain pg then load a tankful to try.

Also if your tank build is new there may be a break in period before it reaches acceptable
performance levels.

You've not mentioned wattage levels, start lower with the tank build and creep it up with time.

You may have already known all this but taking these steps is what I'd try first.
I always see folks recommending rda's for flavour trials, I always use the equipment I intend to vape the new liquid with for the same reasons/troubles you are now experiencing. Cheers.

I just did the RTA switch myself but I switched from CE5's and kanger protanks type of vaping. I bought a new bottle of Mothers Milk to celebrate (cant clone it yet) and turned that Kayfun bad boy up to 20 watts. It tasted badly burnt and nasty. Turned it down to 10 watts and it tasted great even with chain vaping. The coils I have are more in line with 1.7 to 2.4 ohms with rayon. When using Mothers Milk before on my magma RDA with an unregulated mod I had no problems but with an RTA it was horrible at high voltage. If you can, turn yours down some and see how it taste.

Try wicking with cotton and bring your coil up to 1 ohm. An rda wick tends to get more saturated then a tank so the flavor is fuller and less burnt tasting. With a tank wicking is dryer in most cases then with an rda so a cooler coil and cotton which is more absorbant will saturate better and thus reduce the dry burnt effect. If your using a variable voltage power source you can also try lowering the wattage on the RTA which will also help. Over all it sounds like your present hotter build is not effecting your RDA as much as it's effecting your RTA.
