My Manual Battery Died!

My 510 manual battery just up and died! No warning at all. I know I need to order another one (or two), but in the meantime, is there anything I can check or do to see if it's really dead (and I don't have one of those ohm-reader things or whatever they are.. so no technical stuff please...keep it simple...I'm simple minded :p).

It's not even 3 weeks old. Unfortunately, my warranty was 14 days, of course!

When I put it on the charger, the charger light is green right from the start, like it has a full charge, but when I attach it to an atty, I get nothin. I'm suckin' air. Tried it with all my attys and it doesn't work with any so I know it's the battery and not the attys.

Now I need a supplier who can get it here quick because we're leaving in a week for vacation, and I'd also like longer than a 14 day warranty since I don't want to find myself in this position again. I know all parts are considered replaceable, but 3 weeks for a battery is a kinda bad, I think. :-x

Does anybody know anywhere other than theSmokeSafe who carries the titanium manual batts? I don't want to order from there again since this one crapped out so fast, but I really really love the titanium.

Fingers crossed my other manual holds out until the new ones get here. I really don't want to go back to the auto battery or, oh please no, my 402. 8-o

I'm sorry you are having trouble with your 510 battery. I don't know of a non-technical way to test the battery. It sounds like a mechanical failure to me. One thing, have you cleaned the metal contacts on the charger and the battery. Those get dirty sometimes from juice getting in the connection. This juice is then passed on to the charger when the dirty battery in connected. Wish I could offer more than that.

Thanks Kevin. Would I clean it with rubbing alcohol? If so, I have some and I could try that.

Right now I'm trying to charge it in my PCC to see if for some unknown reason that would make a difference.

The weird thing is the LED lights but there is no sizzle and it won't activate any of my attys. But if it were truly dead, why would the LED light when I push the button?

I did email my supplier but haven't heard anything yet. Hoping he has some suggestions, too.

Hi Speedikeys,

Alcahol wouls be a good cleaner. I use q-Tips and a contact cleaner. I am surprised at the green junk that comes back on the q-tips. I don't think you could get get them dirty enough to block the charging all together so I suspect the battery is defective. The wires to or from the connector on the atomizer end must be broken or the protection circuit is defective. I hope your supplier makes it good.

I recommend having three batteries in rotation at all times. I have three I use constantly and another 8 in storage. When one dies (no deaths yet after 3 months) I'll just grab a new one and place it in rotation.

Also, less than three weeks is a pretty short lifespan for any battery. You should check and see if the supplier you bought it from has a warranty on the parts. You may be able to get a replacement. If the LED lights but the atomizer doesn't fire, it's probably charging but has a defective connection.

Overall though, I'd stock up on some spare batts and atomizers. Innovapor.com has a kit they call the "510 Recharger" that includes spare parts but no wall charger (which you don't need if you already bought a starter kit.) You might want to check it out. Some of the other suppliers have nice package deals like that too.

I thought 3 weeks on a battery was pretty crappy too. Unfortunately, my supplier offers a 14 days warranty and I knew that when I bought it. I did email him but haven't heard anything back yet. :-x

Luckily I have 1 manual battery still working and 1 auto (it will have to do to fill in while the manual is recharging), but now I'm nervous that this is gonna keep happening so I am gonna stock up on spare batts and attys. Got 3 attys now, but one favorite that works better than the other 2.

So has anyone had any trouble with wall chargers? I mean, do you all think it's okay to just order extra batts/attys and not order a whole new kit just to get another charger? I have a wall charger and a PCC so I was thinking I didn't need another charger, but if those tend to go bad, then maybe I should have a back up for that, too?

Surf Monkey, I've tried going to www.innovaper.com, but it doesn't take me to a website. Google tells me that no such site exists. It is spelled right? I wanted to check out that "510 recharger" you mentioned.

Like some people have said, try 99% rubbing alcohol, if that doesn't do anything it's toast.

if you can't get it fixed, I'll buy it from you for $5, really. I make mods with them.

PS you can get more manual batteries from electronicstix.com, he's in Utah and does priority shipping.

TOTALLY my mistake. I spelled it wrong. Here's the correct linkage:

InnoVapor :: The Finest in Personal Vaporizers

Make sure and check out the InnoVapor Coupons thread in the Supplier forum. There's a special on the Recharger kit (and on a bunch of other stuff right now) that makes the price really good.

There is nothing complicated about a multimeter (the ohm-reader thingy [sic]). You could pick one up at Radio Shack or Sears for less than $20. I walked my daughter by phone through buying/using one when she was away at college when her computer died 2 days before finals. She determined the problem and replaced a power supply in a matter of hours and was back in business.

The multimeter is your friend especially when e-cigs aren't always our friends. This one tool, which looks a lot more complicated than it really is, can be used to test the batteries for proper voltage and it can be used to test a faulty atomizer for resistance. All one has to do is set the dial for voltage and touch the probes to the terminals (on the battery). For an atty, set the meter to ohms and touch the probes to the shell and center conductor. It's not rocket science, I swear. =)

And, the multimeter can be used for an array of around the house projects or on the car.

Thanks SurfMonkey. I ended up finding it by trial and error. I'm so glad you gave me that link. I never heard of Innovapor and I was thrilled when I saw they carry EcoPure. I've been really wanting to try the EcoPure juice so I ordered the Recharger kit and some extra EcoPure.

Unfortunately, I didn't think to check the Coupon List before I ordered. I left SleepHater a message in the forums to see if he can apply the 15 ml free Ecopure to my order after the fact.

Youfillinthe blank, If I can't get it replaced (which I doubt because it died on 18 days, not 14), I'll take you up on your offer. I'll let you know.

RichieG, I believe you. I really do. In fact, my husband probably has one in his toolbox, I bet. But even if I figured out how to use it, what would a proper reading be? Oh, and now don't laugh, what are the terminals?

I wanted to add that I got an email from my supplier (James at TheSmokeSafe) and he's willing to fix it even though I'm passed the 14 day warranty.

Now that's a good supplier and one I'll continue to deal with in the future. :D

He also suggested pulling the center post up? with tweezers because he said it might have gotten pushed down somehow. Will try that and cleaning with alcohol.

Thanks for all your help!

SurfMonkey, I left him a message on the Innovapor coupon thread in the supplier forum. Do you think I should PM him, too, or just leave it on the forum and see if he checks in?

He's on the board a lot, so he should get back to you pretty quickly. If you haven't heard from him in an hour or so, send a PM.

SurfMonkey, I just wanted to thank you for pointing me to Noah and Innovapor! :thumb:

What a great guy, what a great company, and what a great e-cig the Titan is! Got my Recharger kit today and I absolutely love it! Didn't think it was possible to like anything more than my Yeti, but this is it!

I'm loving' this Ecopure, too! Noah is great and included some extra "goodies" in my order. :D

Thanks again for the tip! I'll be a return customer, that's for sure!
