My old 510 kit needs to be replaced, but so much has changed in the past 4 years. How to decide?

So do I need an eGo-threaded or a 510-threaded battery? Would the variable-voltage eGo Twist battery work with these clearomizers?

Maybe someone will chime in here with different results, but I have had no luck trying to vape a dual coil on an ego battery. I need a VW/VV device to run dual coil. With that said I think you are definatly on the right track with your purchase, although like the rest of us, you are stepping into the "other side" of vaping. With the astions you have taken with this post, I see the potential for another hobbiest vapor. 4 years and one PV will be a thing of your past... muah ha ha ha! Enjoy. It's been a blast for me!

I started with a twist. Went to a cheap little box mod. A Vamo was great but recently broke it at work after the tenth time meeting the concrete. Now I am giving both worlds a try. I have a mechanical mod with a kick. This gives me the versatility on the cheap. I can bulid coils and use it as a mech., and slide the kick in there if I want VV/ VW for my cartos/ clearos. The kick is in the mail as we speak. This week I will be considering the purchase of the MVP V2 for a backup.

Well. I ended getting both the iTaste MVP 2.0 and the iTaste VV3. $100 for the pair at a local shop. Titanium blue for the MVP, black for the VV.

The price for a slim battery plus charger for the clearomizers in the MVP kit was about $20 and the VV3 with charger was $35, so it made more sense to just go with that as my more-portable PV.

What a huge difference from my old and tired 510! I haven't played with the settings yet (want to read the manual as well as some of the articles and threads here to learn more first) but I'm very happy so far.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Welcome back Sig! Long time no see man. It sounds like you've got a pretty good set up going. Those devices should be enough to keep you going for a good long time if you can avoid all the shinies on here. I just went through the same through the looking glass experience and wound up with a Reo and RM2. A bit out of your current price range but a damn good vape. When you get a bit more comfortable with all the new gear, you may want to venture into RBAs (rebuildable Atomizers).

I have a question about the MVP 2.0 and the VV 3.0.

Some reviews state that by holding the 2 buttons to check the resistance of the attached coils, the unit will then display the recommended voltage setting for that atomizer.

But the manual says that doing this shows the battery voltage, not the recommended operating voltage based on the resistance of the coils.

The guy at the local shop, when going over the features of these PV's, also said that it displays the recommended voltage.

Is this just one of those misconceptions that become "popular" because of word of mouth, or is it actually showing the recommended voltage?

If you were a newbie, I would say get an Ego Twist or Vision Spinner. However, you are not, so I'm going out of your price range to suggest a ProVari. Nothing wrong with MVPs, but once the internal battery dies, you have to buy a new one. ProVari, you just have to buy some new batteries once in awhile. ProVari is well-made and comes with a warrenty.

After playing with the settings, it seems that I greatly prefer low wattage / low voltage. Both of the iClear 16's that came with the kit measure at 2.0 ohms.

Anything more than 8.5 watts is pretty harsh, only giving extra throat hit but no additional flavor. Going 10+ watts starts to get some burnt flavor.

I've been keeping it at 6.0 - 8.0 watts or 3.3 - 4.0 volts (5.4 - 8.0 watts if I'm remembering the math -- it's V^2 / R to calculate watts, right)?

I think I may have discovered why the highest voltage and wattage settings weren't working that well for me. The clearomizers (iClear 16's) were having a little trouble wicking the juice fast enough.

By untwisting the wicks so the individual fibers were separated, they seem to pull the juice up more easily. I still don't care for the highest settings, but 9-10 watts seems to work much better than it did before.

And it's all in the juice!

I found that one of my tobacco flavored juices (Virginia Flue Cured from American E-Liquid Store) works great at the higher settings on my iTaste MVP 2.0 and VV 3.0. This juice works best for me at 10 watts, and still vapes very well at the highest settings possible -- 11 watts in VW mode and 5 volts in VV mode (which works out to 12.5 watts).
