Hi Everyone.

So I'm still pretty new to the e-cig. I've had them for a few weeks now.

One thing I was told about is that sometimes, with an automatic, it is possible for fluid to drip into the battery and basically screw it up. Now the 901 isn't supposed to be as sensitive as others, but it still can happen.

So today, I had my automatic 901 battery connected to my standard 901 atty and cart. I am still trying to find out what the sweet fill mark is on them and today I think I may of overfilled it.

I was vaping now and then in public while being careful to keep my vape to myself. I keep mine assembled and in an eyeglass case to keep it vertical in my pocket. Normally I have it so the cart is on the bottom.

8-o Here is the painful part. While watching the game I started to smell the familiar smell of burning cart. I open my coat pocket and it was me! I pulled out the 901 and it actually was so hot it burned my fingers. I had to use napkins to unscrew the battery. The battery was stuck on and even when unscrewed the light kept glowing. I even have blisters from the burn.

Apparently juice leaked into the battery and kept it on. My batteries do not apparently have the 5 second cutoff or it wasn't working. I had no idea it could get that hot. It actually melted a bit of the cart!! It also stank really bad.

So now I got home, did a quick vodka bath and rinsed it out. When I blew it out, there was some dark liquid in it.

I primed it with some Red Bull e-juice and its fine again. No bad taste.

Lesson: If using an auto battery, keep it stored with the cart on the bottom OR disconnect it by unscrewing it half way. The alternative is to use manual batteries. The buttons can stick on them, but at least you know it way before it would get hot enough to burn you.

Cheers!

I use automatic batteries too and this is a good reminder to separate the battery from the atomizer whenever you're not using the PV. I try to remember but don't always succeed but I've been lucky so far. I'm glad the damage wasn't worse for you.
. . .I suggest you have extra batteries and atomizers on=hand in the event of a premature failure of one of those components.
That's the first thing I did after I realized how much I loved vaping. I ordered extras of everything so I wouldn't face a crisis. :D

Just to clarify....in this instance did you have the cart on the top when you stored it? I have been using a 901 since March of last year, usually just stick it in my bra cart end up and I've never had this problem- knock on wood!

If you'd have this issue, where you store it would be noticed much more quickly than myself since it was in a case, then in my winter coat. So you'd probably be able to catch & unscrew it way before it got that hot. I actually have blisters on my thumb and finger.

yes, it was cart side up. now, so everyone knows, I do the marine blue foam mod and this is probably unique to me because I may of overfilled it. i'm not saying the 901 model is bad or anything like that. All I am saying is that it could happen.

I've been doing my way of storing it often, but this is the first time it did that and I've only recently been using that foam mod. So that's why I think the biggest issue is "user error".

I do love my 901 though, even if it does get an attitude now and then :)

My atty did survive, but the battery is dead. I am going to try to clean with with electrical (non conductive) cleaner to revive it. I will update with my findings.

I also agree auto bats are easy to use and allow no hands operation which I do like. Manual bats are sealed so there is NO chance of fluid getting in.

Try a man batt. You'll love it, I promise!

That sounds fairly dirty! Ha!

I use manual batteries on all my DSE801s and I don't think I'll switch to automatics. I've also never had the button stick (knock on wood) but I have had it get bumped 'on' for a second or two, while it's in my pocket. So far, no worries.

I learned my lesson the first day I got mine. I manage DJ's and do marketing at nightclubs. i received mine on a Sat. I was delighted to be able to take it out that night. I had a 901 with auto battery. Suffice it to say, the battery kept going of with the bass from the music. I had to unscrew it halfway because it was heating my atty in my shirt pocket. I also have a sound system in my car and the bass sets off the battery. So vaping in the car was difficult. I now have 2 manual batteries and I LOVE them.

Edit: Also, for the 901, the manual batteries don't fit in the charger or in the PCC. I opened my charger, cut the small tube surrounding the contacts and cut the front part where the battery goes in. I also cut my PCC on the side and top and now I can use it with my manual batteries.
