Ok boys and girls, gather 'round, this is how Uncle Jax rebuilds his Plume Veil rda with rayon. The best wicking material to come along since organic cotton!

I'd like to preface this by thanking JeremyR & dice (and whomever else was a part of the rayon wicking collaboration. my apologies for not knowing all of the innovators.) for their innovative and out-of-the-box thinking. Without their adventurism and imagination, this write-up would not be possible.

With that said, let's get to it.

Previous build - 6 wraps of 26g Kanthal around approximate 2mm diameter mandrel (home-made mandrel made of coat hanger)...

pvbuild1.jpg

Pretty crappy build. Yeah, I know.

Nonetheless, let's begin. 5 wraps of 26g Kanthal around approximate 2mm mandrel with angled negative leg...

pvbuild2.jpg

Mounted to the deck...

pvbuild3.jpg

Excess leads snipped clean...

pvbuild4.jpg

Would you just look at that fine craftsmanship on an authentic $115 Plume Veil? Come on Aether Tech!

pvbuild5.jpg

Wicked with that newly discovered substance (thanks again JeremyR & dice!)...

pvbuild6.jpg

Oops! Got a little ahead of myself with this image. I use a blunt tipped needle and gently caress the ends of each wick upwards prior to priming. Personally, I think that this is a very important step. Don't try to cram the wicks down into the wells until they are wet with juice. Learn from my mistakes dear children.

pvbuild7.jpg

Apply the juice liberally as this wick is going to last you a long, long time.

pvbuild8.jpg

Now, gently, gently, tuck the tails down onto the deck...

pvbuild9.jpg

Another view of previous...

pvbuild10.jpg

Reassmeble RDA...

pvbuild11.jpg

And vape to your heart's content...

pvbuild12.jpg

Hopefully I will remember to come back to this thread periodically to give feedback on this build and how long it lasts.

Once again, I cannot thank JeremyR & dice enough for their pioneerism in the wicking world of vaping.

t's the most important part of the build process, after all. For me, anyway.

Nice build tutorial! Have never tried rayon but think I will try it. Let us know how long it lasts.

Will do Gordon! Just took an image after an hour and a half vape. White as white can be and you saw the first priming pictures (light brown). Maybe post it tomorrow. Switching up juices now from a local B&M's Cappuccino to Suicide Bunny's Mother's Milk.

Great tutorial, and I had to click on it when I saw Plume Veil in the title.:)

Aweosme RDA!

Nice pics.

I've fallen in love with 26g kanthal. Not springy like 28 and allows me to build .9 to 1.3 ohm builds without tons of wraps like 24. Not mention killer .4-.6 ohm parallel coils.

I like 28g on an RTAs as I try to build them around 1.2Ω but like 26g on my RDAs as I prefer .4Ω or there abouts.

Looks nice on the X for sure!
I'm running my plume veil clone on my 4 nine w/dual 26g 7/8 wrap @ 0.35 ohm. The center post screws fit but are a tad loose when backed out for threading the leads. Once I snug them down it's fine. I will eventually try the PV on my stingray x but the 454 is sitting pretty in it right now. I am still a 454 fanboy but have only had the PV clone for a couple days now so that may change.

Thanks man!

I wasn't happy when I saw the image above with those non-finished post holes. I'll probably try to clean them up some when I rebuild it but that shouldn't be for quite some time.

I've actually got the PV on my Phantom Brass Ray now. I needed to clean the PB Ray before I could mount the PV on it.

Got my copper afc Magma sitting on the X now and it looks good as well.

I guess I need to see what all the fuss is about with the 454.

Please explain this!

Hybrid mode means the standard top cap is removed and the hybrid copper or brass adapter is threaded onto the atty. the 510 goes through the hybrid adapter and makes direct contact with the battery. Direct contact equals shorter mod and less voltage drop.

Attys that are used on a hybrid adapter must have the positive pin protruding at least 1mm from the threads of the 510 or a dead short may occur.

Look at those drill holes. That is embarrassing. FDA should come in to regulate this if nothing else...LOL. You should do a tutorial on "How to De-burr an Authentic Atty. This thing looked like a big gimmick to me. I can't see an atty improving on the flavor I get from my Magma and other devices I use. Thanks for sharing your build- It looks great. I hope you are enjoying it.

Nice write up jax. Looks good!

P.s.
Dice was talking about how ramie works and that got me to pull the hemp out of my coil and try the rayon again. Then I found out what I was missing from before when I first started the Vcore thread.. That blown away moment is what sparked me to move forward with bringing rayon out to the community full force.

Yeah, my eyesight isn't that great and when I opened that image up and saw how horrible those post holes were, I was not happy to say the least.

 Thanks for the laugh.

Thanks Jeremy! Also appreciate the background on the beginnings of rayon use.

I'm so happy to have tried out this as a wicking material because of you. It has been a real blessing for me just in the build category alone. When I used to use cotton, I always seemed to be using too much getting dry hits and re-building all the time because I just couldn't get it right every time.

My hardest cotton build thus far has been on my Erlkonigin. I must have rebuilt it half a dozen times before I finally got it right. When I first got my rayon I rebuilt the Erl. Bam! Got it right on the first time. Wicks like a dream and the flavor is just outstanding!

I normally take my RBA into work and only use my drippers here around the house. I'm on stay-cation this week and will be using the drippers exclusively. I plan to post new images each night as I did last night just to see how it goes.

I'm on stay-cation this week too!! Awesome!

Yeah the Vcore thread was popping before the chimney video from what's his name. So essentially I was the beginner in that too. I posted it the first time in the micro coil thread where what's his name saw it. Now they have a BVC coil for the nautilus.

Here's the first thread breaking the vertical external wrapped coil and rayon!
