I don't know if this is just me, or not. But I have noticed that now that I strictly vape, I have neglected to keep a lighter on my at all times like I used to. When I am without a lighter, it really makes it apparent how often I really used it. Not only to light my cigarette but so many other things. And it is so frustrating not having one on me.....but seems ridiculous to carry a lighter around with me any more. Here are some of the things I have needed a lighter for and not had one.

1. Lighting a fire in the fire pit at night (I dip in the pocket, no lighter there, then panic mode sets in.)
2. Opening a beer (I have always just dipped in my pocket for my lighter and used it to pry my beer caps off)
3. Assisting a friend in lighting their cigarette (Every time I am asked for a lighter now I still dip in my pocket out of habit and am immediately disappointed)
4. Mood lighting when it is necessary and the candles need lit (you know what I am getting at)
5. The occasional time with the guys when the immature thought of lighting flatulence on fire hits.

Of course the list could go on and on. Just sharing some frustration. Guess I could easily cure this itch by just sticking a lighter in my pocket. But that seems too easy!

I collected antique cigarette cases and lighters, my favorite cases have automatic lighters attached to them. None can fit my Dura. :( Now I just have the PCC. It is a cool little device but does not have the classic styling of an antique cigarette case. Now I am left hunting for an oddly sized case which is nearly impossible to find. I am also finding myself with a new problem. I was very smooth with a lighter; I used it as a pickup tool. I could have a woman’s cigarette lit before she could even remember where her lighter was. "Thank you" is an excellent conversation starter. Now I have to figure out what to do with myself. I miss my lighters. Now I guess I have to figure out how to be smooth with an e-cig?

Hey, I finally joined so I could add to this post. I have been debating trying e-cigarettes for a long time and with the schip law, it is time. I quit drinking 6 months ago (taken to ER because of a seizure) and have gone from 1 1/2 packs to 3 packs a day. Anyways, about lighters. I collect vintage and unusual lighters, cases, dispensers, etc. I never even thought about losing my beloved little "gadgets"! I love my IMCO and Bowers trench lighters on the go, and have a bevy of cool table lighters. How I will miss showing them off when a fellow smoker (or non) sees one for the first time. Damn, I'm even more unsettled about schip now! Well, to hell with it, I'm going to the bar for Seagram's shots. Just kidding (I think). Thanks for listening, all!!!

I don't see what all the fuss is about. Just keep a lighter in your jacket pocket and another in the bedroom near the candles. Continue to collect tobacciana, it is a reminder of our attraction to cigarettes and all that made them so intriguing. Our grandchildren will be fascinated with our stories of how we used to smoke in hospitals, pay huge amounts for table lighters, etc. I still love cool lighters as much as I love cool pens - I didn't give those up with the desk job. I went through the same pains when I quit carrying a pocket knife - all of a sudden I had a million uses for it, but alas, I needed the pocket space and cargo pants weren't popular yet.

A goofball I work with lit the tip of his ecig by accident, he was alternating between vaping and smoking, not a good idea to carry a lighter when you are vaping.
Umm, I did that one morning while half-asleep, as I'd stupidly left a lighter near my e-cig! Goofball I am :(

The most utterly stupid this is, it was a black evo, doesn't even look like a cig!

Just goes to show how smoking habits die hard!

Part of my daily ritual before going to bed was making sure my faithful (and elderly) zippo was serviced for use the next day and setting it on my wallet so I wouldn't miss it in the morning. After I started vaping I stopped this and it didn't occur to me that that was the cause for my feeling of "something I forgot to do" haunting me. It caught up with me a couple weeks later and I am back to lighter maintenance and carry as usual.

The funniest incident was one where another tech asked me for a light when he saw me sitting outside having a smoke. Without even looking up from my laptop (or thinking) I offered him my 103 to get a light off the "cherry". He had never seen an e-cig before and took it out of my fingers, then stopped cold (pun intended).
Needless to say I looked up, realized what had happened and laughed until my sides hurt.

The other tech? He just quit analogs and is also now a happy e-cig user.

Side note: Any sci-fi buffs in the crowd might recognize why we call them "dopesticks" now, courtesy of the Retief novels by Keith Laumer. :D
