I have a vivi nova too..started getting sore tongue too! It kinda went away after I bought my aga-t. Dunno if it was the vivi or that I was drinking more water, or whether cos I was chain vaping 12mg that first week of kicking analogs... hmm...too many variables to put my finger on it... but in any case..no more sore tongue now :)

Oh hai ladies and gents,

I am new here and generally new to the vaping world, loving it so far.
But recentely i hit somewhat of an issue...

I started out vaping fine, using a 900 MAH Ego battery and a vivi nova.

I started out with 18mg juice, which was too strong for me in nicotine, then i got 6 mg, which was ok, but not enough.
So i tried to order 16mg juice and well, it is also a bit too strong, but easier to vape than 18mg, im having some 12 mgs coming in.

Problem is this though, using those 16 mg juices, i started having some weird burning-ish sensation on my tongue, still have em now, as if I got burned by hot tea or coffee kind of thing and my tastebuds dont seem to be able to recieve any flavor from the juice im smoking (went back to 6mg, till the 12 ones arrive).

What the heck is going on? Is that normal?

The juices i vaped, i tested out 4 diff ones, all are made by Flavorz by Joe and sold from Pink mule. Blueberry, Blueberry Cinnamon Crumble, Strawberry Peach and Creamy Coco. I mainly vape the crumble one, cause i like the taste, but im getting a bit worried and confused. I am a huge food enthusiast and my tastebuds are very important too me, im also a food critic. Eating food its somewhat okay, i dont lose the taste completely, but vaping i can barely taste the first few drags... I need to take like 4-5 drags to even be able to get a hint of the taste from the liquid.

New coil on the vivi nova, everything rinsed, cleaned etc.

The juices i got coming in are from different vendors (i figured maybe its a vendor issue).

Any help is greatyly appriciated.

Hi. Yea it's normal. Lol. You will hear that talked about on here as (vapors mouth). As you probably already know, vaping tends to dehydrate you. So drink lots of water.
Re: The burny hurty tounge; yup happened to me too. I ha a blister at the end of my tounge the first few weeks of vaping. Not sure why it does that. My tounge also hurt. The good news is it does go away and dosent happen again, at least for me.
Mabey your tounge just toughens up after a while. Who knows. Lol

Also; as far as the not tasting the liquid, try mixing up your flavors a bit.
If I for example; vape menthol all day, then by say dinner time the taste is just gone. I move to a new flavor and it's all better, then when I go back to menthol a few hours later, then the taste is back.
Hope it helps to know that everything your experiencing I went thru too.

Yeah I quickly discovered I need to keep drinking water since vaping makes my throat feel odd. Like there's an excess of mucus or something similar. I started to get that sensation near the end of my analog smoking days, and it's slowly starting to go away. I wish you the best of luck with your situation I hope it resolves itself.

Your problem might also be due to the liquid getting on your tongue. I'm using a vivi nova as well, and I notice that sometimes I get a blast of hot liquid that goes onto my tongue and that will make it hurt for a while. If you continue to do that, it'll make the painful tongue, and the loss of taste for a bit.

I just hold the tip off to the side of my mouth now and haven't had any more problems.

I get a burning tongue sensation if the wattage is too high. If you have a VV device, dial it back. If you don't, use a higher resistance head in your Vivi so your total wattage is lower. I see you are using fruity ejuices so those being vaped at too high a total wattage could be the culprit!

Also, you may want to cut back on the frequency of vaping. My tongue can get sore after a chain vaping session. But it would also get sore after a chain smoking session.

Drink lots of water too.

Change up the position you hold the drip tip in your mouth so it's not hitting the same spot on your tongue every time.

Your tongue will heal fast - there are so many blood vessels in the area, that's the great thing about your tongue. :)

You might want to cut back a little - use the higher nic but use it less. If it's strong enough, which your post seems to suggest, then you won't get cravings.

Now that you're not smoking your sense of taste will actually get better, not worse, and your sense of smell will start to improve as well.

I used to have my coffee extra strong at work, because it tasted right that way. After four days vaping and no cigarettes I had to start drinking it at normal strength. It tastes the same with only one teaspoon of instant coffee powerder. I used to have 1 1/2 (OK fooling myself - it was probably close to 2 spoons)

It sounds like you're burning your tongue, which might be chain vaping with an atomiser that is running way too hot. Don't rule out adverse reactions (allergies etc) to PG though, you might need to fine tune your mix.

I am also somewhat "new"...Started last year and took a "break". The issue you are experiencing, I had also.

Here is what has fixed it for me...

I switched to a clearomizer. Less worry about if I have enough juice, no dripping, less hassle.
Also, I lowered the nicotine. I copied the flavors I already had, that were 16 mg, with 0.6mg, and that way I can mix 'em and get about 8 (?) mg.
Lastly, Today I purchased a variable voltage battery and am running it about 3.3 - 3.7v.

Try to find a brick-n-mortar store in your area. Some of them will let you sample the flavors of juice. If they are worth their salt, they will be able to give you advice. If not a brick and mortar store, let me know and I can get you a ph # to an internet that I know that will take the time to help you any way they can.

I appreciate all of the input to my issue, this should be told to the consumer at the time of purchase. Typically I'll get maybe a couple kankers a year if I eat certain things. This experience totally sucked big time, I had some dental work done a couple of weeks after I had quit and started using the e-cigs and I questioned my dentist of 30 years and he told me that most kankers will run about 14 days. When it hit the 30 day mark I decided to look at where I am now. Thank you everybody for your input, I'm moving forward with a happy mouth.

What the heck is going on? Is that normal?

I don't know how "normal" it is but I had the same kind of problem recently. So I went poking around and came across the idea of "vaper's tongue". There's some discussion here:

Taste Buds and Vapers Tongue

You can also search around here at ECF and there are many discussions about the matter. But nobody seems sure what's happening. Still, it doesn't seem to be anything to panic about?

I do not know for certain but I suspect with myself it was brought on by discovering a juice that I liked a lot and vaping too much ("overvaping" as it were). Also letting the vapor hit my tongue as I inhaled. That did produce a great taste but I think the nicotine may have "stunned" my tongue. :)

I read what folks here on ECF were saying and thought to try making sure to not allow the vapor to hit my tongue directly on inhaling. After a while, everything went back to normal.

Now, as I said, nobody seems certain what's going on but what you describe is exactly what happened to me. The "burnt" sensation as if I had scorched my tongue with hot coffee. I also had the same kind of sensation in the roof of my mouth where vapor would also "hit" as I inhaled it. Also...

The juices i vaped, i tested out 4 diff ones, all are made by Flavorz by Joe...

Yep. For me, it was his blueberry flavors. I love blueberries. The "Blueberry Candy" flavor was just too good. I'm quite sure I vaped too much. :)

Try being careful to direct the vapor stream away from the surface of the tongue. And not always in the same direction. I started moving my tongue "out of the way" and inhaling from the sides of my mouth and such things. It didn't seem to take long before the taste returned. And I'm enjoying the Blueberry Cinnamon Crumble right now without a problem.

A couple of other things I did that may (or may not?) make a difference was I didn't just drink more water (remember, vaping can dehydrate you) but also did a bit of "swishing" over the tongue now and again. I feel the vapor may tend to "coat" the mouth and maybe that could contribute to the numbing of the taste buds? I also brushed my tongue when I brushed my teeth. It definitely feels as if some kind of "coating" builds up on my tongue from vaping. Maybe that's just a sensation, I'm not sure. But it's worth a try eh?

At least it seems to be a temporary thing. I went back to normal very suddenly one day and things are fine now.
