I quit smoking the day after I received my 510 batteries, cartos and liquid from Bestecig in China.
Moved to egos with cartos, then CE4 clearos, then Kanger T2's with Evics and mechs.
Moved to Vision Vivi Novas
Ended up with ProVari/Vivi Nova which is still my all day vape. I do have some Subtank Minis and Nanos that I will use someday. I drip occasionally on 510 attys and rdas as well.

Ego\ce4 starter kit for about a week. Spinner knockoff and a natilus mini for 2 weeks.
Smok magneto II and an igo W3 for about a month. Finally stopped smoking with this setup. Bought a sigelei 100 watt and used the igo. Various RDA's like the Doge and a plume veil clone. Finally landed on the Alliance RDA by fogwind. Have used that the last year.

Recently bought the tfv8 and a fuchai 200 watt. Love it so far but still go back to the sig alliance combo.

Have a bunch of stuff I have bought along the way. My first actual ecig was 2009 someone gave me a cig alike and some carto style cartridges. But they were awful. I gave them away.

Ego Twist and those cartridges that came with the eGo kit.

Then to the eGo Twist and the Vivi Nova. Quit smoking with this combo.

ProVari and Vivi Nova for a couple of years.

ProVari and Kayfun Lite Plus for the last year or so.

Added the Kabuki into the mix.

Am trying out the K5 right now. It seems a bit easier than the KFL+. Has top fill instead of bottom fill through a tiny screw hole.

These are the mods I remember, but I no longer have them all. So, starting in 2010 (from left to right) ....

I started with Vapor4Life KR8 equipment. Then I discovered bottom-feeders in mid-2010, starting with the WetBox. I was sold on the concept, even though the WetBox was a POS. Then I got a REO Mini from the first run in September of 2010, and a REO Grand from the first run a couple months later, and it's been nothing but bottom-feeders ever since. I switched to bottom-fed RDA's back in 2012. I am currently using a Coppervape with a Science of Vaping SOD 5K. My army of REO's and Coppervape mods will outlast me.

I started with a cig-a-like and failed. About two years later, I purchased an ego twist style battery with an Aspire tank and quit for good. Next up was a Sigelei Mini with a Kanger tank. I hated the tank so it was back to the ego. Then onto an AIO quickly followed by a Cubis tank for my Sigelei, which is now what I prefer.

My progression-
eGo (not pictured), Segelei Zmax/Kayfun, ProVari/Trident RDA, Reo/RM2....these are what made me the vaping fiend I am today!

I love the all white look! Especially the Reo w/the white DT!

My progression was kind of short.

I started back in 2013 with an EVOD starter kit. I loved it so much! When a battery would die I'd just buy another. When I wanted an upgrade (replaceable batteries, variable voltage) I bought an Itaste SVD. I wore the 510 threading out after about 5 months or so from changing tanks so much. I then went to Reos and Provaris and have been there ever since!

No need for me to upgrade any further!

Started with an iTaste with a Kanger Protank (& Protank Mini) and move to an MVP 2 with Nautilus. From there I moved on to MVP 3 with a Kanger Subtank, Plum Vale Dripper with a mech mod. Moved into Epipes (Guardian 2, EPM & a Guardian 3) and now my daily drivers are a cheap DNA 40 from Hana Mods with a Griffin and a Smoant Knight V1 with a Sub Tank.

There were many other mods in there (Sigelei, iStick, Kanger Sub Box, NEBox etc.) but I settled in to .4 to .8 coils between 20 to 30 watts. What ever I am using it needs to be able to be rebuilt (like the taste better) so most of my tanks are sub tanks with the RBA head though as I said I do use the Griffin daily, and I have a Kayfun 5 on the way to try out.

I also am waiting on my first Squonk Bok (the Wraith from Council of Vaper) to try out Squonking. I love dripping at home, but it is a pain when I am out and I hope the Squonk box will enable me to drip while out of the house.

Like so many others I started out with an eGo-T. Took me about a month to figure out that eGo-T atomizers were a PITA, and discovered how easy it was to convert a 510-T atomizer into a dripper.
Then on a whim I bought a little 510-N, and discovered that "cheap" wasn't as cheap as I thought. So I went looking for as durable & full proof (or was that "fool" proof) as I could find, and bought a Silver Bullet and then a Mako. 6 months later I just had to have a Provari (a V-1) Then Jason & Barry started making the J-tanks, and I had a solution for when my 510-T drippers weren't convenient.

And that's what I vaped until Joyetech decided to "update" the 510-T atomizers. (updated to death is what they did)
In my search for a replacement for the 510-T I discovered the A7 RDA.

So now I have 4 Provaris', a dozen mechanicals', 14 A7s, 12 bricks of cartomizers, and 12 J-tanks, and that should last me for about 50 years.

I quit right away. I was mentally ready to quit smoking months before I got into vaping, but I've been on a weight loss regimen for a while and didn't want to ditch the nicotine due to its metabolic benefits.

Walked into a vape shop in West Palm Beach while I was there for work, bought a Wismex RX75 kit and some juice, threw my cigarettes in the trash on the way out to my truck. Bought an RX200S 2 weeks later and 2 tanks since then. Cleito RTA and my personal favorite, a Griffin. I use my RX75 often. Usually when we're out and about, but love my rx200s for home or at work all day. No desire for a cigarette.

Ohhhhh I forgot, before the eGo I started with Blu. For me, it was like sucking a watermelon thru a straw. I figured the appeal must be the blue LED on the end. At the time I was still smoking cigarettes & when I ran out I made the decision to skip the middle of the night store run. The next morning, I found a smoke shop that happened to sell vape items & purchased an overpriced eGo & been progressing from there.

I started vaping (2.5 years ago) well after I quit smoking. The whole month with no smoking. Finally I decided to buy "just one pack" in a supermarket, but saw they sell something for vaping from local startup (do not know if they still exist). It was rechargeable cigalike with refillable cartrige for $45 (it is still the most expensive single item for vaping I ever bought). Not good at all, but since I was already not smoking for a month, I was like in heaven. Nicotine! I started to look if better things exist. In a month I bought a Vamo with iClear 16. Then clearos with Protank coils (rebuildable). RTAs, box mods. Usual things.

I tried a disposable in 2013 and gave up on it before I even used it up.
This year, I tried an ego, and successfully quit using 12mg liquid.

When I had satisfied myself that vaping was for me, I bought a subbox mini kit and an Endura T-18, and found them vastly preferable to the ego.

I'm still using the mod from the subbox kit, but now the deeming regs have come out, I have switched to rebuildable tanks (kayfun minis) and stockpiled some mech mods too.

I'm still on 12mg juice, and I don't really enjoy subohming. Just glad to be smoke free.

It kind of threw me at the start when MTL devices were referred to as 'for beginner's and subohm setups were recommended for 'advanced user's.
I'm my opinion, it is a personal preference, not a logical progression.
As someone who rebuilds their own coils I don't think I could really be described as a beginner.
Some people just don't like subohming
