Possibly accumulation of some excess e-fluid on the coil. I've seen and heard this effect happen on my rebuildable atomizers when I first wet them.

Personally, I've always believed that those sounds are what my good coils sound like. You are basically flash-boiling small drops of liquid; I'm not sure what else it should sound like.
I know I've heard talk of extreme snap-crackle-pop, which doesn't seem good, but I can say I've ever experienced it.
Sometimes it sounds like a more mild roiling boil, other times with some nice big pops thrown in. I wouldn't be embarrassed. If you watch any videos of someone showing off their rebuildable dripping atomizer firing it with the top off, it tends to make those same sounds, and these people are very proud of the way they work!

Yep - nothing like a good snap, crackle, and pop. I get them with a fresh build on a RBA all the time - often after rewicking with cotton, as well.
It's a combo of wick saturation (available juice), coil heat, and air - think of it like the pops of the kindling when you start a camp fire. Watch for juice drops popping into your mouth, mind (get your mind out of the gutter, those of you giggling right now).

Yea def sounds normal to me because I get that in both my protank mini 2 and 3 a lot. Happens a lot too if I up the voltage even a little bit. Lets say from 3.7 or 3.8 to 4.0
I was turning the wattage and voltage down to stop it. Heh - now I know it's normal, I can turn it back up. I thought I was killing my coils. Some of my generic airflow tanks would really pop like a capgun, even on a wimpy INNO. If I had fired it with the tank off it, it would have blown the silicone nipple off the atty! It would occasionally pop a drop of juice into my mouth. Yuk.
Vaping is really new to this area, and almost all of us are noobs. Most of the shop owners, too. There isn't a lot of snap, crackle and pop going on. I'm thinking they thought just like me, and turn stuff down when the atty starts getting fiesty. See? A n00b question can be a good thing!
The only time it's a problem is if those POPs pop you in the mouth with hot ejuice. 
My Kayfuns, wicked with rayon, tend to do that if they've been sitting for a while without being vaped; apparently the rayon wicks the juice so well, it kinda builds up in the wick while it's sitting, and when I pick it up after I've been vaping something else for awhile, when I first hit the fire button I make sure it's not pointed at my mouth! 'Cause that HURTS!

well, the wheels on the car go round and round, when the meat hit's the skillet, it makes a sound.
amount of juice on coil, in wick, being vaped at given time, will cause different sounds, but sizzle is usually a friendly, I'm working kind of sound. And all gear will give off different sounds and noises, depending on type, style, material used, watts vape at, air flow, juice ratio, everything effects everything in vape land.
All these things should make one wonder why, and investigate, strike a theory, and experiment. Leads to a better understanding on what makes vape possible, which leads to one being able to improve their vape. It's like seeing bubbles in the tank, tells you it's wicking properly, and gurgles tells one, a wicking/flooding issue is involved.
Being able to listen to what ones vape is saying and tasting you, also leads to better understanding and vape.
