Okay so I've been rebuilding for about a week now. Just protank and evod heads for now. The first coil I built works pretty great. I've built three more since then and i cant get the burnt taste to go away at ALL.. I tried dry burning, using a lighter to heat up the coild before and after i wrapped it and NOTHING works :( I would rather not have to buy replacement heads for my tanks so if any one could give me a little advice that would be great :)

are you burning the coil wire before you wrap it? also what are you using for wick?

what do you mean by burning the coil before wrapping it? like heating it up with a lighter? I did that on one coil and it still tasted like crap. and I've mostly been using 2mm braided silica wick but I've tried cotton as well. every new coil i build with the exception of my very first one just tastes burnt and to me its unvapable

Hi. I have been messing around with protank and evods heads now for 3-4 months. They are very tricky to get right.
In the UK, there is much love for "rebuilding" and people are encouraging everybody to do it, even new vapers of say a few days.
I am beginning to draw my own conclusions from many many failures. Unless the coil is tidy and the legs are 100% clear of unintentional contact with any part of the atomizer body, it's going to fail. Too tight, too loose, touching wraps, wrong size wicks, it's not as easy as some say.
I did a good one tonight, no burning/priming of the Kanthal wire, no special treatment of the wick (ekowool). Just an A++ wrap and extra attention to the path of the legs and the cutting of the wires around the base/bung.

If you are set on continuing (I shall give up once I have my $10 worth of supplies) then follow the advice of everybody who has theories....they might all be right. If I ever do more than two good ones in a row, I will try and identify what I was getting wrong.
Good luck.

I use this method with cheesecloth so I can rewick without recoiling, because I'm super lazy.

I imagine you could still recoil by either wrapping the coil and installing it alone and then wicking, or by wrapping with something rigid in the center of the cheesecloth strands. If you have something against laziness. I find I need to put juice directly on the wick before using the head, or I need to let the tank sit full for awhile before using it to prevent scorching. Cotton takes awhile to suck up juice.
