I'm fairly new to the whole vaping thing, but have been lurking on here for a while. I know there are tons of threads on the Nautilus, but I was unable to find a solution.

So I bought an Aspire Nautilus, plugged it on my provari mini, and immediately the taste and strength was much too burnt and harsh. Then, several very unpleasant puffs later, it smooths out and becomes enjoyable. This happens every time I vape after it having sat for a little while.

I realize it sounds like an issue where the wick isn't wet enough and my coils are probably dry burning. I tried replacing the coil (which I've heard are sometimes faulty) to no avail.

I've tried all the things I've read on here, such as:
-Tilting the tank upside down a few times, to get the bubbles escaping the holes.
-Replacing the coil
-Dry hits to "prime" the coil
-Dialing down the voltage

Nothing seems to work. Always unpleasant for the first several puffs. It's frustrating as the internet seems to think this tank is one of the better ones, but I'm more frustrated than pleased.

How can I tell if I have a bad coil? Any thoughts? I'm trying to get my friends to stop the nasty analog habit, and I'd hate for them to dismiss it entirely especially since the first hits are so unpleasant.

Thanks in advance.

I have the Nautilus as well, and have been extremely happy with it. With that said though, I had a rough go with it in the beginning.
It was a temperamental twit at first.

Mine did exactly as you described, and my best friend had the same problems with his at first as well. We were both trying different things, and touching base with each other with our results.

It's probably important first to make sure the coil isn't bad. Make sure it's reading around 1.6~1.8 ohms (can be as high as 2.0). It may give you that higher value if you've been using this coil for a while and/or using liquids that can foul it up easily.

Make sure everything is snug: top, coil, and base. She does not like to be loose.. Are you running the beauty ring with it on your provari? If you are, make sure that is snug before putting your Nautilus on. I noticed this early on that this could lead to it not working properly.

One night my friend and I were discussing the dry hit problem, and it seemed that when the tank got lower than half a tank it would dry hit. My friend thought this to be a simple gravity issue that could be alleviated simply by keeping the tank filled above the half way point. It worked.

The crazy part to all this, is that all of it stopped on it's own. I can even run my tank now below the .5 ml level without ever getting a dry hit, even if the coil is new, or used. In retrospect, I think it just needed a break in of sorts. This was our experience, I don't know if it will help you. I certainly hope it does.

Good luck!

Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm really hoping it breaks in as well, as I do enjoy the big tank and sheer look of it.

I tried removing the tank from the battery, and blowing and pulling on the tip (which led to a bit of leaking), but this seems to have helped a bit. Also, as a habit, I keep tilting it upside down and back to get those air bubbles.

While I am not familiar with the Nautilus, it sure sounds like the wicks were not wet before using it. I use Kanger EVOD and ProTanks. I know whenever I first load one up I have to let it set a little and do a primer puff or two. I realize you say you were doing that, but your comment that it mellows out later is what makes me think the juice is not getting into the wicking system initially....

My two cents worth...

Hope you find a solution.
