Hey guys,

I recently got back into vaping since we finally got a local vape shop. I decided to get a Smoktech Zmax mini and a Nautilus Aspire tank.

At first the tank was awesome. Now I keep getting burnt tastes on my coils. The shop owner told me to wash out my coils with water daily, so I bought seven coils and use one once a day and then wash them all out in water and restart the next week.

When I put the cleaned coil in I let it sit for 10 minutes and I always use the max airflow with the Aspire Nautilus.

It seems like only the first use is really when I get smooth vaping hits. Should I be doing more than just rinsing them in water? With my old 510 Cartos I used to boil them and they seemed to last longer. I like my Zmax set to 3.6V and vape pretty heavily after work.

Should I soak them in vodka over night? Also should I be cleaning the whole entire assembly? I only really clean the coils. Any help would be appreciated if you notice anything I'm doing wrong.

Really thinking about going back to my tank setup with Cartos if I have to keep buying coils constantly.

I have been using the nauti for a while with bvc's. I have cleaned the tank many times but, I do not really clean the bvc's. Just trow one in and vape it until it burns which is about 10 days or so than I replace the coil. Clean tank put new juice in it new coil. Go on vaping. If you are getting a burning so soon it is possible something aint right. Either the voltage/wattage is off or something is loose. I have not seen them die right away. I use my Nauti on my VTR normally at 13 watts, 5.1v on the bottom vertical coil (2ohm). When it burns you know it. Tighten everything up and give it another try to figure out what the problem might be.

are you priming the coils before using them? when you replace the coil (new one) you need to put the airflow on minimum and suck on the atty without the battery to get the juice into the coil/wick assy. unfortunately, once a wick/coil gets burnt, it is somewhat difficult to get that flavor out of it.....

I got a dry hit on one of mine-changed out the coils and the burned taste remained-there is something porous that picked up that burn outside of the coil, probably one of the seals-you could try cleaning the entire tank but if it was me I would replace it completely-that would stop you from replacing coils everyday and therefore even out the amount you are spending by dropping the old tank-mine never recovered

Thanks for the input guys.

One thing I noticed last night too is my vapor production is getting less, so I'm thinking I need to clean the whole assembly. I was going to clean the tank and soak the airflow assembly over night.

I vaped it next to my old Halo Triton I first bought on my return to vaping and the Triton produces more vape than my new setup. I have got to be thinking the tank air flow assembly is getting clogged since I could cloud a room when I first got it?

Yeah this is what I typically do, but I have the flow set to max. I will try with some new coils with the tank set to minimum airflow and occasionally set it back to the minimum to get the wick juiced again since I always have the flow set to maximum.

Man, I primed, let sit, hit without firing, even dripped in those darn bvcs. Went through 15+ and I tried everything to get it to work, burnt, nasty hits EVERY time. Once in a great while it had a muted flavor for like 10 hits, but then it'd fizzle out. At 6 watts. Got a dripper and I'll never go back. Also tried to sell the nautilus's in a local forum and nobody wanted them, their value is like 15-20 bucks around here.

So I can use just one for 10 straight days then clean the tank and replace the coil? This would be perfect.

Yeah I'm thinking of going with a dripper or back to my cartos with my big daddy tank. Not happy at all with the coils.

Try that, but either put the airflow on the lowest setting as Bunnykiller suggested, or put your finger over the airhole while you prime it. You don't have to use a lot of force, just enough to get the juice into the coils.

Also, what type of juice are you using? If it's heavy on the VG side, you might need to prime it more often than if it were say a 50/50 blend.

Good luck!

The BVC coils basically ARE a carto. I have no idea what was going wrong for Tonythefiddler, but that's not at all the experience I've had with the BVCs. I use them in a Nautilus Mini, and will be using them in a big Nautilus when that vapemail arrives. A 10 day lifespan is about right, sometimes stretching to 2 weeks. When the BVC head begins to go bad I sense a slight change in the juice flavor, and I start hearing a lot of gurgling in the tank, and I know it's time to change it. Notice I said slight change in flavor though... the BVCs have never given me a burnt flavor or a single dry hit. I have vaped on them up to 15w in my VTR, though I usually leave it at 11w.

Burnt taste is the product of an unsaturated wick. Juice is provided to the wick when vacuum is applied (taking a draw). If sufficient vacuum is not provided juice flow is decreased and Burnt taste is the result.
Too much air flow can cause insufficient vacuum and insufficient juice flow - decrease the air flow
Juice being too thick (high VG) can cause too little juice flow - try a higher pg juice
Too aggressive a draw can cause the flow of juice to be insufficient to keep up - long slow draws
Too high a wattage/voltage setting can cause the flow of juice to be insufficient to keep up - turn you pv down

I had the same issues for a while. Most people turn up the voltage or wattage to get more flavor out of the nautilus, very bad idea. There are plastic sleeves on the coils wires heading from the coil to the positive and negative posts, when they burn, the coil is ruined. Keep your voltage low, and consider rebuilding the coil using rip trippers techniques. I found rebuilding with 30ga kanthol and some Japanese cotton to make the nautilus a dream vaping machine. Do not ever dry fire the nautilus, and if you do clean the coils, let them air dry before using again. Rebuilding is the fastest way to get back to a great vapor consistently. Once you do it a few times, you'll have all the skills you need to move up to kayfuns or rdas.

I've been using the BVC coils going on a month now. I LOVE them!! All three mini's I have haven't had a problem at all. I did notice early on that a higher wattage yielded much better performance and have settled in at about 13+ watts for my taste. I tried cleaning one and it's really not worth the effort. Wasn't the same, and personally, if your going to go through that trouble, you might as well get into RBA's. I'm not interested at the moment in that as I'm pretty content with the greatness of the aspire nautilus mini atop my Hana. I am however going to purchase a Silo just because of its capacity and the use of the BVC coils.

Hi.. Bought the Nautilus mini 2 weeks ago and have the same problem with the burnt taste..Cant get it to work properly... First hours it performed great with great vape and sweet delicious taste with some zeus juice inside, then came the burnt metallic taste. I primed the coil well, let it sit for 15 min and staying between 8-9 w on my mvp2. Tried both coils with the same result. So frustrated over how hard it is to get a good hit out of the mini... Pathetic how the cheap tanks like the tumbler or i30 for 1/3 of the price, outperforms the mini by miles right now. Tried to clean properly, dryburnt and cleaned again before drying and tried 3-4 other juices with the same result..Got 5 new coils from aspire, gonna give it a last try before i smash the ....er with a hammer! Dont wanna give up but i mean how many burnt hit can a man stand i wonder? Right now i have a hard time to think about this tank/coils without hating it.
