Neat trick for a super wick on a ZAP or Zenesis

So i took the insulator out of my zenesis standard and used the stock wicks and just wasnt satisfied with the performance so i rolled up a SUPER WICK.. The wick was just about 1/10th of a millimeter smaller then the wick hole and i used a super fine layer of cotton from a cotton ball as an insulator.. The new wick being so dense with mesh wicks like nothing ive ever seen on a genesis.. so heres a pic of the wick in the tank.. Should be pretty self explanatory from the description and the picture of how to do it it..

I did that on one of my Zen's before, but found the flavor to be not as good as the thinner wick. But you do get more rice crispy effect that way.

problem with a thick wick like that is it takes a lot of power to get the vapor going and the coils heated up.. most of the power is wasted on heating up the wick to the point where the coil will fire and go crispy.. take the top off and you can see how long it takes the coils to start popping

Interesting I was wondering what the pros/cons were of a thicker wick. That pretty much explains it I think. So you are saying the stock "zen" wicks will help the coil last longer and improve taste, possibly at the expense of maximum wicking..... Hmmm

There's a big thread in the modder's forum discussing thick wicks and 500 mesh; they wick better, even VG. His experiments defied the popular belief that 300 and lower mesh wicks VG better. He didn't do the experiment for flavor, but others have commented on that. As someone mentioned, you need more coverage of thicker gauge kanthal for best performance.

Vaping 100% PG, I don't think I'll do this anytime soon but it's good for those needing better wicking to suit their juice and vaping styles.
