I don't remember the exact reason for using the mesh... I'll have to go look it up again. After over an hour of use and just over a quarter of a tank I'm still getting clouds of vapor and not a dry hit yet!

Ok, so the guy that started the post on the wire rope wick tried it with just the rope and coil.....he couldn't get rid of hot spots....he thought it was probably due to the irregular surface are of the rope and the coil not making proper contact with the wick....he wrapped the top in ss mesh and it worked.....I figured my luck with hot spots I would just go straight to using the mesh on the top.....here's a link to his post if you're interested.....

That's kind of what I figured.. Wonder if cotton would work as well.. Cool beans dude..I will do a build asap!

I think I read a post on that thread where someone said they used cotton and I believe they said it worked. Can't wait to hear how it works for ya!

Hell yeah! Even cheaper than mesh.....one guy said he has been using his for over 6 weeks and all he's done is dry burn his coil every now and then!

I would suspect that it is much more difficult to gunk up than the mesh..

Just make sure it's not galvanized and you will be golden! $1.79/ft, I believe

Some people were saying that the wire rope they found had a red or gold thread in the center of it. The stuff from stuff I found at tractor supply didn't have a thread in it. Just make sure you get the stainless steel and not the galvanized.

Well, it's good that Iowa made it through the NIT tourney.. the game on Thursday will be for all the NIT marbles. Should be a good one!
