This coil that I messed with forever on my aga is getting hot spots again......now I can only really get the top 2 coils to glow, the bottom 3 barely glow at all.....actually the very bottom one doesn't glow at all......i don't fully understand this whole coil building thing.....
I'm getting ready to shorten some blinds.....

I did the drill bit on this one.....but with wrapping the mesh on top of the wire rope.....so the mesh isn't really tight! You guys need to hurry up and try it, so you can teach me how to do it right! :beer:
My last coil was giving me grief as well. Ended up doing another couple of burns and re-coil.. Worked for about a tank before hotspots came back. Dont have that problem with my duds. Are you breaking it in at a low voltage for a while? Whats the setup?

I usually start it at 3 volts then slowly work my way up. I've got 5 wraps of 30ga kanthal on a wire rope wick with about 2 wraps of mesh on the very top. I was thinking of wrapping another coil....but I have a huge headache and don't feel like messing with it. I think my biggest problem is I'm having a hard time keeping the mesh wrapped tight around the wire rope on the top
I don't know what what happened. I just saw Jen had to go pick up bandages and skittles because you hurt your hand.
