Hey all.

Well as the gf took my 2 Aspire twist batts and one tank from me I need a backup to my Sig 30w. Now of course another Sig30w would be perfect for me right? Well it seems I have come down with Shinyitus and in the vape shop yesterday I noticed an Aspire pegasus 70w with VV/VW and temp control.

Now as a newbie I will never use half that stuff, right now I am content with playing with the watts and letting the mod decide what voltage I should use. BUT.... it is so shiny and has stuffs like VV and temp control and take all sorts of coils.

Of course it costs twice of a Sig 30w but again.....shiny..... So here is where I need your help.

1) Please tell me why it is better and just what temp control mode is.....
2) Give me a REALLY good reason that I need it so gf will not shake her head and call me an idiot like usual (But she does it with a smile) :)

Temp Control is simply a way to limit the wattage on the coil so it doesn't exceed your set temp. It works by measuring resistance. To some extent, all metals change their native resistance value with temperature, with resistance increasing as temperature rises. Some metals do so very slightly-- Kanthal, for example, a NiFe alloy, is used for heating elements for precisely this reason-- and others do so more. Some of them change their resistance very evenly, what the cognoscenti call a "flat TCR curve." These metals-- pure Nickel, Ni200; pure Titanium, Ti; and Stainless Steel in 316 and 304 grades, SS316 or SS304-- are all presently used and exhibit this characteristic. The mod measures the resistance of the coil at room temp and, as you fire it and the temp goes up, the resistance changes (increases) in a very predictable pattern. Using this change, the mod can sense the temperature of the coil wire and, as it approaches your set value, then limits the wattage going to the coil to hold it where you set it. This can be useful to prevent burning your juice, or swamping delicate flavor notes, or to stop you from burning your wick in case of a dry hit. I didn't like it much, back in the Ni200 only days, but the newer Stainless wires are making me rethink that a bit. It is not necessary to have it, but it can be useful under certain circumstances, and particularly if you like complex flavor premium juices; or like to wick with cotton or bamboo, both of which burn easily.

The Evic VT or VTC mods are not a bad choice if you want TC. One of them is fixed battery, the other removable. I personally would not select them, but that's just me. A lot of people have them and love them. For a fixed battery, non TC mod, I'd suggest the Innokin Cool Fire 4. In removable battery mods with TC (Ni200 only), take a look at the Sigelei Mini Book, or the Cloupor Mini Plus in the low wattage range, or the Siggie 75TC or Smok Treebox for more power. Right now, I personally think the best deal going on a removable battery TC mod is the Wismec Reuleaux RX200, which can be had at Vapenw for $40.00. This is a 3-battery 200 watt mod, but it works just fine in lower wattage ranges. Load it with LG HG2s or Samsung 30Qs and the battery life is just hilariously long; it's also smaller than most of my 2-battery boxes, not significantly heavier if at all, and ergonomically designed. I don't know why everybody doesn't have one. For each hand :)

I have an eVic mini. It still hasn't left the house.

(long history of dead Joyetech mods here....)

I bought one (special price) and so far it has been fabulous.

We have a mod called "Sea Wasp J2" which is getting some attention. No step down apparently, like IPV D2 from what I gather.

So many choices, but such unpredictability with the newest mods. I like to see how things go before buying something new, unless it's inexpensive.
Thankfully, almost everything is cheap these days. I bought a mini Cloupor for $26 and it's been 100% from day one.

If you are looking for a solid device and that handles temp control well look at the SX Mini devices. They are going to be a little more money than the mods you are looking at but you get what you pay for in a device.

I have three and they are a very consistent and Yihi has done a good job with there chip. The M class is a older device but still a workhorse for the price.

Varitube is a very reliable vendor and supports the products he sells and has the M at a good price.

SXmini Mod

If you follow the link check out his Renegade boxes, I have one of those too and they also use the SX chip.

I own both DNA and SX chips, the SX just is more my style.

@suprtrkr how can you dislike the vtc but like the rx200
1) Evic had some quality control problems with them when they first came out, now allegedly fixed. I'm not over it yet.
2) When they first came out, they were all the VT model, with a fixed battery. I don't want a LiPo powered vape machine, and I'm not over that yet, either.
3) They don't offer SS wire support, although I expect that to change as they are now firmware upgradable.
4) I don't like Joyetech much.
5) The RX is cheaper.

5yr + Vaper.
Tried/Vaped damn near everything from Blu & Greensmoke to the Biggest, Newest, Baddest, etc.
Now,,,, ALL TC Mods & Ti-built RTA's w/one exception; a Tube Mech (Innokin 134 MX-Z) for dripping with a 13/9 RDA.
IMO, TC=ABSOLUTELY

That being said, take a serious look at and research the Asmodus Snow Wolf 75 mini TC. I have a stable of High-End TC Mods (whoopa-dee-doo right ;)) and the little Snow Pony keeps up with the Stallions quite nicely and was 1/3-1/4 the Cost of the others.

I went with a dna 200 device for tc. I like the software and all but havent tried rx200 chip although guy at vapeshop showed me his wismec and looked nice and he said it worked well. For 40 bucks you get a lot and he says batteries last him bout 2 days vaping fused claptons at 100w, vaping a lot. I just keep my old vaporshark dna30, mech mod and a zmax mini for backup. I just kept them when i moved up in power.
