Those panasonics as well as AW IMR batteries hold their voltage pretty steady until they're done. By the way, you can get a replacement V2 head for that Ego 18650 for about $10 that offers both 3.3 volt regulated and unregulated 3.7 -4.2 volt options. I bleieve it also fixes the original's short lived button - Joye ego-t 18650 Mod Battery

That's the one I had on it, except I had the v2 (flush button). I'm going to go to the store I bought it from today and see if they'll replace it. Mine is always-on, now. The button flashes when I put in a battery, but somehow this switch failed in the _closed_ position. No good.

Re: batteries, I've got Panasonic CGR18650CHs, which are also safe chemistry (though slightly different than the AW) and hold voltage better than even the AW IMRs. They still start strong and droop throughout the day. I'd also prefer a mod that has at least minimal safety features, like low battery cut off.

What I look for in a PV when using low res atomizers is how well it disipates the heat from the atty. It's nice that most RBA's have big bluky bases to help with the heat, but it's still something to think about when getting a new PV to use with low resistance stuff.
For a 3.7v PV the SB is still hard to beat for it's ability to disipate that heat.

The only thing I worry about with a mechanical mod is the change in output as you continue to run down the battery. It's going to be really hot at first, then get really cold by the end. Some liquids deal with that 'ok', but some of my liquids taste horrid when you go too high or don't have flavor when you go too low. That was the appeal of a regulated voltage device (or VV/VW device). I'm with you on low gauge wire, but I only need 5-10 watts max. 17 watts! You're crazy! :)

To 440BB's Point, Using an IMR batt, I personally use Panasonics, the charge is fairly consistent throughout the discharge cycle. There are days that I will not change batteries at all and bc I vape at LR, my heat is always noce. Once I discharge the batt from 4.2 to the normal 3.7 range, it stays very consistent from there.

Yes, 17watts is kinda crazy, BUT honestly it is not as much "heat" as you would expect. It is just full. And being that I was a long time Full Flavor cig smoker, I have found this to truly give me what I am "craving" at times. Most of the time I am actually not vaping at such a high wattage as that drains batts considerably. 10watts is my sweet spot.
