I was lucky enough to become the proud daddy of a REO Grand (mech.). Been LOVING it since Friday. Suddenly, this afternoon, it seemed anemic and or not working at all. Here's what happened: had it in my breast pocket and was doing some carpentry laying on my side. It slowly flooded. Seemed to work fine later (at lunch): but on the way home it was acting like the battery was kaput. Battery swap doesn't help. Took it apart, washed it, reassembled. Nope. Took it all the way apart (short of removing the 510 connection), checked/cleaned all contact points, reassembled. Nope. Tried 2 different atties. Nope. Tried the RM2 on another mech. Worked fine.

Short version: is there anything that commonly goes wrong with these that I should be looking at? I really think it's 510 or switch, but I don't see anything.

Thanks for the ideas, folks! Nice to know there's people willing to help. Here's what I just figured out. (Citrus juice overflow this afternoon). The more I fiddle with it, the weirder the 510 feels while I gently screw the atty on and off. So I pulled juice feed tube back off and, lookie there, when I screw the atty in, the whole thing is turning. (the tube connect nipple, the south end of the positive on the 510 is turning). Who knows about replacing or fixing 510 connectors for REOs?

That nipple screws on to the post.posible it came loose and is making a poor connection to the fireing pin ( pin should be sandwiched between 2 pieces). You can tighten that down and see if it helps. By putting a small screwdriver at the atty connection in the slot and using the tube on the nipple to tighten up the 2 pieces.

Good luck

So, can I go ahead and dissassemble that completely? Screw in 510 and nipple? I want to competely unscrew them and look at the firing "pin"/leaf spring connection. Tightening down didn't do the trick.

The delrin insert wont let the contact move once you reinstall it . Clean the very point of the positive contact run a file over the point use some pressure . If a mod is run dirty it can take some pressure to remove the oxidation .
Make sure you tighten the center post using a screw driver and a pair of pliers . As you can see there isn't much to it. If all the parts are tight the mod should run perfect . If it doesn't the positive contact still has some oxidation
