Hi everyone! I'm not new to vaping but I have a real "newbie" question about alternatives to plain old stainless steel cartomizers. That's what I've been using for more than five years of vaping, but I'm interested in making a change. I tried clearomizers and I like the convenience but I found they really muted the flavor of my juice. Is there a carto alternative that doesn't adversely effect flavor?? My setup is about as basic as possible - I still use plain 650 to 1300 batteries, nothing fancy at all, and I actually buy 808s because I can get them as automatic rather than manual and I prefer automatic. But I'm willing to switch to 510/ego threading and manual batteries if necessary to get the flavor of a carto with the convenience of a clearomizer or other alternative. Would variable voltage batteries help with flavor when using a clearo? Any advice would be sincerely appreciated!!

Oh man, fantastic questions. I was cartomizer for a long time, and then broke into the atomizer world like 5 years ago. How you go is all dependent on how you like to vape. Small and discreet? Huge amounts of vapor? It sounds like you're a mtl (mouth to lung) so you still vape much like you would pulling on a cigarette, right? There's also direct to lung, where you vape like you're breathing. No filling the mouth first with vapor. If you've been doing cartomizers, then let me tell you, moving up to an atomizer is like crazy more flavor! Going up to 510 threading really opens up a lot of possibilities for you. If you want to start out slow, then go for one of the starter kits. Having the whole kit all there in front of you ready to go is so much better than starting off with just a stick battery and trying to figure out what to put together with it. Also, stick to mtl for the beginning. DTL can be harsh at first for someone not used to warmer, fuller vapor. Now, if you want to jump in with variable wattage but stay small and convenient, then something like the Eleaf Pico is beautiful. In the kit they pair it with the Melo III mini tank, which holds 2mls of liquid. Really nice, solid little mod. Goes to 75w. I am a mtl (just personal preference) and I almost never vape all the way up to 75w, though once in a while I pull out one of my 150w monsters just for all the clouds of vapor. The Pico is just really small and convenient, tuck it in your pocket and go. The Melo tank gives beautiful full flavor. However, just for novelty, I paired my Pico with the new Atlantis Nautilus X tank, which is 2ml like the Melo but has this new airflow system that I wanted to try out. I am really surprised at how nice the Nautilus X is. Good full flavor and I find the top mounted airflow regulator absolutely non-leakable. I have not had a drop of fluid leak from it. Ask some more about your preferences as to size, power, flavor, all of it. There are amazing vapers here who know huge amounts of stuff. Maybe this helps a bit to give you an idea of what's out there.

I have several kabuki clones (510 connectors) I love, I was using cartos and clearos in May, so just started getting a bunch of new stuff since FDA deeming. My fav set up now is Provari Radius and Kabuki. But I recommend any Provari there are plenty of specials, the Classic takes lower ohms and now priced cheap on the specials page. Even the P3 is cheap on specials. The Nautilus coils the Kabuki takes can be rebuilt with some practice I hear, haven't tried it yet but will for future if nothing is available down the pike.
Edit- I am strictly MTL vaper, tried DL and it about killed my lungs! LOL

I was looking at the Provari since FrenchFry1942 suggested it, and I have to say, they really do look nice and are built really well. I would recommend one on the specials page with a Nautilus tank any day (although the Kabuki tanks, though I've never used one, look intriguing). Provari are US built and their customer care looks to be excellent. I was pleasantly surprised to learn about them. Had never heard of them before, and I thought I'd heard of all of them. Hoping to hear more I don't know now.

Oooo, I just checked out the Provari 2.5 . Now I want one.... Do you mean the Nautilus or the Nautilus X. I just got the new Nautilus X and I am really liking it. Now, excuse me while I go check out more of the Provari stuff....saw a stealth unit there that's making me salivate....

Provari's are spectacular. I own two 2.5 and a P3.

Why Provari?

Check the Classies, some great buys on Provaris! I bought 4 there awhile back for my stash plus a bunch of new ones from Provape specials. You can't go wrong for longevity and Provari, I still have a P mini 2012 that works great, so they will last :) I added the Raduis because I thought if they go out of business I don't want to miss out, so I have a used one and a new one too. Love it, and if you are MTL, nothing better IMO :)

I have 5 now. The P2.5 and P3 are just limited in watts. That is fine for staying away from cigs/THR and flavor. Just not for power vaping.

I have a P2.5 and two P3s, got them cheaper and very glad. I don't anticipate ever needing to replace them.

Speaking of the standard Nautilus, it was my last clearomizer and I had 6-7 of them so I could change flavors quickly. Great flavor.

simple, quality, easy. Just my experience.

Yeah, I'm not a power vaper most of the time, so the lower end variable volts/watts mods work fine for me. I own a couple of 150 watters, but pull one out maybe once a month for novelty sake more than anything else. Mostly I like staying 75watts and below. I actually daily vape my 20 and 30 watts. And when I got into tanks, I started with the Magnus. It was terribly disappointing to me. I couldn't ever just lay it down or I got a huge puddle of juice all over the place. Then I got the Aspire. Again, some leaking but not as much.

Since those first tanks came out, though, they have really come forward in tech. Now, Aspire's are like the only ones I trust. I used the Melo III that came with my Eleaf Pico, and it's okay but changing the airflow is difficult, imo. The new Nautilus X I have found to have great flavor and is much easier to adjust, especially with the airflow regulator on the top of the tank instead of the bottom. But with both of these I haven't had a drop of leaking. It is so nice not to have to walk around with tissues and paper towels around all the time...

And here's a funny thing. I only buy my mods as whole starter kits, so I have an entire city telephone system of USB cords everywhere. I had to devote an entire drawer in my filing cabinet to USB cords. I gotta stop doing that.
