There are carto tanks down to 15mm.

IBTanked is the mass producer of them, is easy to find, and makes them from 15mm to 25mm.

http://www.ibtanked.com/

There are others, and vaperev.com has some top end nice ones. For example:

http://shop.vaperev.com/accessories/tanks.html

The main thing that you should look for in a Carto tank is a fill hole. Many don't have one, and trying to push it up and over to fill it when the tank isn't empty is a pain.

I don't know why Carto tanks have fallen in popularity. It's simple, cheap, and is basically plus ohm dripping without building coils, and with a tank.

I will take a look at those links. The cartomizers (smok 510 3.0 ohm) for me were my first and have a great drag, easy fill, and haven't leaked yet. Just recently moved to clearos and in the last week picked up a kanger mini t3 and Smoktech mini, and I can see the benefits of tank espically with glass and metal parts, just swap out coil. So a hybrid to me makes sense.

Correct, the coil is in the carto.

What I am saying is that a carto is like dripping, withoput the build, above one ohm.

Building a coil is better, but a carto is damn close to as good as an RBA.
As a matter of fact, if I am in a hurry, or can't be bothered, I just punch a couple of holes in a carto, throw on my Scuba, and go.

I am doing that more and more. I often wonder if it's truly worth coil building....it is of course, but a good carto setup really gives that good of a vape.

Huhhman and Chelonian,

Thanks for the reply and clarification. You two are like from the future and I am catching up! I definitely like the carto experience and combined with a tank does that mean no leaking compared to just tank? I definitely don't want to continue to replace atomizers at 1.50 a pop (or more) and the idea of 10 bucks for years of coil is attractive. But I can see the convenience and ease of the carto/tank combo. Certainly a lot to explore.

Happy to help.
As for thr tank...well, you can use a carto dripper style, and not use a tank. In that case you dont put a hole in the carto.
The tank is used so that you dont have to drip.
It can leak, although a good carto tank wont leak if on its side or in your pocket. It would have to be upside down for a bit, or have pressure on it so that the carto moves away from the sral.

If you are thinking of going to RBA right now, then the carto tank can always wait. The thing about RBAs is the cost of admission.
If you already have a mod that will run an RBA, you will still need an ohm meter, cotton, and a little screwdriver. If you have these things, great. If not, you are looking at $30-$40, on top of the RBA.

For $40.you can get one really nice carto tank, or a couple of good ones.

Hopefully money isnt a problem :)

On the other hand, you do have to keep buying cartos.

I personally like having both.

Hey thanks all for the great advice. I was looking at aspire et-s tanks. Do they have a tendency to leak? tonight I'm going to order some cheap plastic drip tips and see if that improves the taste. If it doesn't....in the trash they go.

The Aspire ET-S are my favorites. Pretty much as close to flawless as I've ever used. Most of the time there's no leakage at all, but like all the Aspire's you might have some issues when the juice gets down to the level of the atomizer and you lose your vacuum. All I've ever had is a bit of gurgling, and I would just remove the tank and wipe the connection on the battery. I've never had any leaks outside the tank.

Just as an update I finally got around to cleaning the tanks by soaking them in alcohol and washing with hot soap and water and the taste improved dramatically. My only issue now is that when I do long inhales there is a burnt taste to the juice. Shorter ones not so much. Is that indicative of a burnt coil? I don't have any pt2 coils handy but do have ones that work with a pt3/evod and ones that work with a t3s, could I use one of them without damaging it too much?

Great tanks...I have several that are now almost 10 weeks old. No leaks and haven't had to change a coil in them yet. I do tend to run lower voltage. CE-5S by Aspire also a good choice, same coil as ET-S.

That's indicative of poor wicking or voltage too high. The juice isn't getting to the coil fast enough to meet the demand

I am curious about getting and RBA (having an IT background and a tinkerer) and yet still love cartos (since I have inventory). I will end up with both I suspect after I unload my current inventory to my friends who still like analogs. (Two already converted and not going back to cigs). A couple hundred is nothing compared to what my better half spends on mysterious gift boxes and legions of poor clothes choices!

So question about coil making. How many coils can one crank out in an hour? Do you sit around on a Sunday with friends and have a coil making circle? I envision that being quite relaxing. Or do you twist one when the need arises?

I hate to tell you this, but you are simply seeing the limits of clearomizers.

They are great to start. I used them. I tried a bunch of different ones. All have their issues. The best one is the Aspire Nautulis.

If you switch to cartos or RBAs you will get away from all of the fiddling and working around the quirks of clearomizers.

Not everyone needs to switch...some go years with clearos.

But I am telling you - with the things you have said, you need to change. Dont go down the path of chasing the next clearo. I did it. It was, for me, a waste. My complaints mirrored yours exactly.

If you are drawing hard enough to surpass the wicking ability of your equipment (the burnt taste) anything you do will just be a work around that you will, in turn, surpass.
Save yourself the trouble.

. Into the guy that asked how long it takes to make a coil it just depends on how many you have made. I can now make a coil in less than 5 minutes and thats mounting it as well.
At first however count 15 to 20 minutes.

How about this? You can't get much cheaper or simpler. It's what I use

Maestro, well that is a fantastic solution. Can't get any easier than that! What are you putting those into?

Also, have you ordered from fasttech? I have a whole cart of stuff, ohm tester, batteries, and such, but hesitant to order because the shipping was like by boat or something, 30 days. I mean for coils and sucks I can wait, but have experienced how long it takes for them to deliver in the US?

Yeah, don't be in a hurry. The way I look at it is: which do I have more of, money or time? Be prepared to wait several weeks. But if you can wait, it's a great option. Heck, even the shipping is free. It's almost embarrassing to place a credit card order for $2.28, shipping and taxes included. I use these on my Kayfun
