I'm a beginner and would like to eventually learn to build coils. I have the egrip with rba base and have a subtank mini ordered. Well just wanted to get suggestions on what guage wire and type that I could order that would work well for both. The subtank mini will not be ran sub ohm so on both bases I am assuming I want to build coils 1.2 ohms plus? Please correct me if I'm wrong. Just eventually want to be able to build these coils and save money from having to buy stock coils. Any and every bit of info would be appreciated. Thanks.

When I jumped into coil building, I started with 28ga on a kayfun clone. I would read as much as you can and watch as many videos as you can. Take your time, make sure you check and recheck your coils and check out steam engine coil calculator and make sure your device is able to handle the builds you intend to use!!

Have fun and be safe, it's very satisfying getting that first successful build under your belt!!

Thanks. I haven't jumped into it yet. Just been watching videos and reading as much as possible. I do think I will definitely go with the 28g wire, and see how that goes. I will check out that steam engine calculator too. Thanks for that. I just know the egrip shouldnt go below 1.2 ohms and well for now once I get the mini subtank I'm just using it on my MVP 20w until I can upgrade, but I ordered a bunch of 1.2ohm occ coils for it so I will probably be using them until I decide I'm ready to try building my own. Maybe the guys at the vape shop can give me a hands on course too. I'll have to ask them.

If you're planning on building moderately high resistances (like the 1.2 ohms you mentioned) I'd start with 28ga, 30ga, and maybe 32ga depending. 28ga should be great for single coils at that resistance, while 30 or 32 will be good for duals (30's versatile, it could play both reasonably well, but probably around 1.5 to 1.8 ohms for single).

Thanks again. I appreciate the help. Im not attempting anything until I get my 510 adapter for the rba base. I need to be able to test. Still reading away and I appreciate every ones replies. I originally ordered the subtank mini for my new MVP 20w but just got done ordering an Istick 30 watt a decent price. I think it will look a lot nicer on it anyhow. So now my options are even more with the ability to sub ohm. I will take it one step at a time though. Thanks again
