I had this old cheap LED flashlight chilling in my electronic junk box. It used 3 AAA batts, and had a push-on push-off switch. I gutted everything out, so I could replace the switch with a momentary switch. But as for the bat, i'm kind of at a stand still. Should I use the existing bat holder, and find 3 AAA size Li-ion bats, or should I replace the whole thing with one cell.

If i where to replace the cell, could someone link me to a bat that would replace the current holder i have.

You could reuse the battery holder. The 10440 and the 10430 will both fit into it nicely. What you have to keep in mind is the battery holder is a series configuration. This means with 3 batts you would end up with 12 volts +/- and most likely the atty couldn,t stand up to that many volts, not to mention you would probably burn the liquid. Probably be better to use a single battery. Depending on the length of the flashlight body you could use either a 14500 or 18650.

Here's one of the places I get batteries, Li-Ion Batteries

Alternatively, IF you can reconfigure the existing battery holder to connect the cells in parallel, you might be able to fit 3X10440 cells in it for a nice long lasting 3.7 volt device. I think most folks who mod flashlights with that kind of AAA holder dump the holder and use a single 18650 like j0ker said. That's probably easier.

I have about (10) LED flashlights laying around, all different kinds and they all use (3) AAA batteries. I've found if you put a couple rubber O'rings on a 18500 li-ion to add some diameter to the battery that it fit's perfectly for length and won't slosh around in the tube. One flashlight I had to add a couple round magnets to increase the length a little to make good contact. The flaslights run forever on these 18500's.

The 18500 is certainly the best choice. I simply used layers of computer paper to make a sleeve that fits inside to take up the slack, same thing with my 3/4" copper pipe mod.

Check out Connman's excellent post and diagrams, he's made many nice mods. Just opt for the 18500 and a more robust switch.

This 2A switch should hold up better than a tact or the .5A RS ones I see used.
