I have looked into a bunch of variable voltage mods and im needing help finding one. i have looked at the mad vapes metered vv box mod and the lava tube. i'm looking to spend from 40 to 70 dollars because cash is kinda tight right now. Does anyone have any suggestions on a mod for about that amount of money that is worth it?

Yes that's a tuff one. Seems that price range is always sold out. Tube or box, battery options. A 3.7v with a Cisco 1.5 Ohm atty or 1.7 Ohm carto are satisfying combinations. I have equipment that can do 2.9-6.0v and find that 3.7-3.9v is my happy place. Check the ECF Classified for good deals.

I have a Provari.

But on a whim, I bought a GotVapes ultimo box vv. I like it a lot. Its small & light, pocket friendly. At 4v will last about 4 hours with heavy vaping. its only drawback, is the clearomiser is 1 mL. So I refill a lot as I vape a lot. $70. Nice little unit & seems well made in its price class.

Really in your price range, you're going to have a hard time getting anything that's really durable. There is the 3VO which has 4 pre-set voltage settings (3.7, 4.0, 4.5, and 5). The plastic cases on the Madvapes box and the standard lavatube will crack on you eventually. I've seen some posts about a stainless steel lavatube but, I can't find them now. Maybe someone else knows about it.

Hi Retriever, I believe I just read earlier that the Buzz Pro made the grade & now *does* conform to ECF safety specs, if I read it correctly!

Actually I believe notcigs has a model that is ECF compliant but, it costs a little more and they still sell the old one. Personally I think the ECF standards are a little more specific than they need to be to accomplish their intent but, I'm not the one writing them.

Apollo ecigs has a super cheap deal on the lavatube, or V-tube as they call it. They are the only vendor I've seen right now that is selling the new stainless steel V-tube. It is $15 more than if you got a regular lavatube, but its def worth it and the SS V-tube has the new end caps which are supposed to be a lot better.
They are expecting preorders right now, and are expecting to have them no later than 4/15.
They have a coupon right now too for 20% off if you've never ordered there before. The code is "reddit".
I ordered a SS mini V-tube earlier this week and even though it's $15 more than if you got a regular one that's not SS, with the coupon its only $63 for the entire kit, and has free shipping. $63 is not bad at all for a completely redesigned lavatube that is actually SS, and not just coated. They have a chrome one too that is coated for $5 more, but I think it's def worth it to spend the extra $10 to get one that is made out of SS.
If you don't want to spend the extra $15 for the SS one, you can get a regular black, silver, or red one for I think like $51 with the 20% off code. That's a damn good price and deal for a VV PV kit.
Plus Apollo has a 30day money back guarantee, which is nice, and they give a 1 year warranty, which is longer than any other vendor that sells the lavatube
