Oh and BTW, is it safe to use ICR batteries on regulated devices, or even with regulated it is still necessary to use IMR?

It's safe to use, BUT depending on the device, what settings you're using, and the current limit of the battery, it's possible that you'll kick in the protection circuit on the battery and "reboot" the device every time you hit the fire button.

You "could" use Protected ICR batteries in a VV/VW regulated mod, but they won't allow the processor to use its pulse buck-boost circuitry for optimum performance. ICR batteries typically have an amp limit of only 2 - 3 amps continuous discharge rate. A regulated mod may ask for up to 8 - 9 amps from the battery at higher voltages. Either the battery or the mod may shut down when the amp limit is reached.

    Why High Drain Batteries?

In this modern day of battery technology, there is no reason to use a protected ICR battery. ICR is a voltatile chemistry which could be unsafe to use in a mod should its simple protection circuit fail, causing it to vent hot gas, flames, and possibly explode. IMR and IMR/hybrid batteries are a safer chemistry and will in most cases perform better than an ICR battery.

High drain, safe chemistry, IMR or IMR/hybrid batteries are now recommended for all applications in mods.
