Hey guys,

I am super confused as to which settings I need to turn the vape to and I could use some clarificaiton.

First off, the subtank + comes with a .5 and a 1.2, and gives wattage recommendations for both. Do I need to stay within the wattage recommendation. (for example, the .5 says it needs to be at 15- 30 W, if I turn it lower or higher what will happen?)

Second, the settings on the sx mini. I could really use help here. I'm using the .5 coil cause it was pre-installed, if I turn it to the lowest setting recommended (15w) it seems to be pretty hot. What other settings do I need to adjust on the sx mini to get a good amount of smoke but good flavor? And how do I do so?

Like, I'm not sure what temperature it needs to be, or if I should use the joules mode (which I have no idea what it does)

I know the device might be a bit beyond my skill level haha, but it was $90 new, so about $110 off! Anyone who helps me would be my savior.

I can answer the Subtank part. With any vape device the rule of thumb is to start low, take a hit and bump it up. I usually vape my .5 coils around 20 to 25 depending on the juice as they all have different sweet spots. If your vape gets too hot, starts to taste funny or begins to taste burnt, back down the power.

Joules mode is for temperature control coils only. (Nickel, Titanium, or Stainless) Kanthal is the wire that is used in power (watts) mode and the most common with the subtanks. Joules mode (temp control) will NOT work with Kanthal.

I don't change the wick when I switch flavors. I rinse out the tank, dab or blow it dry and refill. The old flavor will pass thru in 5 or 6 puffs.

Get the Subtank Mini and the coils will be interchangeable. Hang on to the larger tank as you'll find a flavor you'll want to vape for long periods sooner or later.

In general, the worst that can happen with too low watts is it won't make a lot of vapor, and it can always be turned up. Too high will burn the coil and/or scorch your juice making it taste nasty. Don't do that :) You should not be in Temp Control mode unless you are using temp control coils with Nickel200 wire (or titanium if you SX has the firmware for it.) Regualar Kanthal coils belong in what YiHi calls "power" mode. Don't worry about the joules, YiHi is using the wrong term. Watts is actually what you are adjusting. Just ignore it and assume watts. And don't worry about the temperature unless you decide to buy some temp control coils. I'm not even sure if the subtank has any.

Thanks a bunch. So basically this tank won't work with the temp control / joules mode anyway, good to know.

So basically the only setting I'll need to adjust is the wattage on my mod really? And yeah, even at 15 it seemed a bit hot, quite the throat hit and I'm only using 12mg liquid, not sure why. Also, any reason I'd want to adjust the air flow on the subtank really, whats the point of that? Is the subtank mini the tank you'd recommend the most for a smaller one just starting out, Or should I find a temp control usable one?

Also, would it really mess things up if I go below the 15w reccommended, and what would be the difference if I switch out to the 1.2 coil in terms of smoke / flavor?

Thanks again, super helpful.

When subohming-- you are, with a .5 coil-- 12mg is probably too much nic. No wonder you're getting throat hit. Get some 6. Or buy 12 and 0 and mix them. It won't hurt to go below 15 watts. If you go to the 1.2 ohm coil, you're probably going to want to be even lower, in the 8-12 watt range.

The tank WILL work with temp control, you just need nickel coils for it (sold everywhere). If using a subtank is a step down in the resistance (say from 1.8 to .5 ohms) you SHOULD cut your nicotine level in half or more as it consumes more juice and therefore more nicotine (and more throat hit). If you have a good quantity of juice you can buy the same flavor in zero nic and equally mixed will cut the nic from 12 to 6.

The Subtank Mini (4.5 ml capacity) WILL also work on tc (just gotta get the tc coils).

Adjusting the airflow is dependant on how you like your vape. I still mouth to lung hit and use the middle setting, as the wide open is too airy for me. If you are a lung hit vaper you'll probably want the wide open air flow, but you'll just have to play with it to find out.

Swapping to the 1.2 ohm coil might help "some" with the throat hit as you'll be lower in power. Keep the slightly used .5 for later use.
