So I just recently hooked my cousin up with one of my old set ups. He has been expressing interest and wanted to give it a try to stop dipping and smoking. He has used a few basic set ups before but none of them have worked for him long enough to give it a real shot (they also didn't quite satisfy him either).

He always likes using whatever set up I have on me when we see each other so I tried to give him something similar. I set him up with a Nemesis clone, an iGo-W, 3 sonys, and 50 ml of black honey tobacco at 6mg (.4ohms, I stick around .2 but didn't want to give him that low just yet). I showed him how everything works, explained the importance of the locking ring and keeping batteries out of your pockets with stuff in them, if the tube is getting hot not to use it and to be careful, basic safety stuff and he seemed to catch on.

I checked in on him yesterday to see how it was doing and he said he "didn't know if he wanted to vape" i told him to just use it for now to cut back and smoke and chew less, and that he didn't have to convert overnight. I told him that I could make him a different flavor and change up the resistance for him if it is to intense, and he responded that he will just keep trying.

I am happy that he hasn't written it off altogether yet, but I don't know if I said the right things or left anything unsaid. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!

TL/DR: what else to say/do for my cousin to help vaping catch on

Maybe show him some websites where he can check out some flavors to order. MtBakerVapor is a nice, cheap one, but ITC Vapes is also worth looking into (I recently ordered from them, and I'm VERY impressed).

Ask him if he's getting the buzz he needs/likes with the mg juice that he's on. I remember, going from 2 packs a day to vaping, that nicotine buzz really made the world of difference in me actually putting down the analogs.

Maybe show him some other cheap mods/devices, find out if he's satisfied with how his mod looks, how the throat hit is, how hot the vapor is, etc. -- Having someone else build for you can be a finicky thing.

Find out if dripping is an inconvenience for him. I know some people who see my vape and are REALLY interested until I tell them every 5-15 puffs I need to add more eliquid. Some people don't wanna be bothered with that, just wanna fill up a tank and be good for the day. Maybe show him the Atlantis, find out if he'd be interested in a more "grab-n-go" style vape.

I dunno man, if I think of more suggestions I'll post 'em. Converting people is always great though, good on ya!

6mg? No wonder, that is a very low level for a new vaper. Set him up with some 24mg to really knock his socks off.

You'll convert him...

Lol! That'll kick him in the ... for sure.

Personally though, I could never drip 24mg, whether I was just coming off analogues or not. That's an uncomfortably high nicotine level.

Hell, I use 24mg to "boost" other e-liquids, and I rarely use more than 20 drops in a 30mL bottle.

My wife is in the same boat. She is using my old stuff. I haven't even talked to her about ohms or watts yet. I just set it. She does try my flavors and chooses.

I noticed that she likes the sweeter and stronger flavors. I suspect that her tastebuds are not up to tasting a "demure" flavor. She did a "whoa" on the peppermint, but she requested the tank be filled with it. She has accepted some others, too.

I have a couple of different mg nic levels, but I use 12mg in hers. She is a light smoker and I wonder if it is a tad strong, but she is getting faith that it satisfies her need. She is learning. One day at a time.

Yeah, that should have been the first thing I asked him, was if he was feeling the nic or not. I'll ask him that later today actually and I should just be able to add some more right to it. I also have a bottle of premium stuff at 12mg that I could give him.

The other thing to consider is if he "really" wants to quit dipping/smoking.... There's a mental aspect to this that one "really" wants to succeed. Otherwise, we can come up with all kinds of other excuses to continue the old ways.

Well played not giving him a .2Ω coil.... Yikes! I've been at this for not quite a year, and I haven't even broken sub-ohm! (But, I didn't have to - I found other things that made this all work for me :) )

Finding out if he's getting the nic satisfaction to help with his cravings would be good to know. Also, you might ask him what situation(s) make him prefer dipping or a cigarette, rather than picking up the vape. I've futzed with setting up a couple of my kayfun minis as drippers, and to me, it's kind of a pain. I take a few hits, and then it burns and I have to find the bottle to put a few more drops in. Maybe a tank of some sort would be "easier" for getting started because there's a bit less hassle than having to constantly top off the IGO.

I wish you both the best. Hopefully your cousin really wants to be successful. There's a setup somewhere that will work for *him*

Tobacco flavors are hard to get right. Nic level, pg/vg ratio and flavor can have a huge impact on how satisfying the vape is. If the vapor production of the setup is there, try and tune the juice. I've found I need menthol, regardless of flavor, to get the feeling I need in my throat, lungs and sinuses to be happy with my vape. Sounds like the missing link for him might be found in adjusting the juice. Good luck.

Yeah I wanted to give him one of my regulated devices with a 1.5ohm set up in it but he wanted one of the tube mods. I think I am going to set him up with something like the fogger on my iPV2 and let him try them both out. Thank you for the help!!!

Yeah I asked him if he was feeling the nic at all and he said not really. I think I will mix up some stronger stuff for him in a non tobacco flavor and see if that helps too. Along with letting him use a tank as well for convience. Thanks a bunch!

Maybe a more simple setup like a good clearo and vv battery would be better for him. Less messing around and less hassle for a beginner.

Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk

the only way I would give him a clear was if I rebuilt it, and that takes a lot of effort for me (I skipped that stage :/) BUT the VV (what I wanted to give him originally but he didnt want) and a tank should yield the same results just easier for me! ;) Thanks for the help!!

he probably took one hit and coughed his lungs out (y'all please remember when you first took your first big puff)

he told you he wants to vape? I've set up one person and she really didn't want to quit..so that was a waste of an MVP.

other than I'm not sure if a beginner could or should drip..your heart's in the right place..but a mini nauti might serve 'em better on that nemi...

but your heart's in the right place..and that's great.

dipping is a tough one to kick..been through it with more than one friend/relative (yeehaw and Nascar *lol*)

good luck

Thanks for the encouragement and advice!! He has used similar type clearos in the past and they never took hold (probably because they were off brand garbage that he got from his GF's dads shop) and he loves using mine at family functions! I new how hard it was for me to quit before I started dripping and figured if its what he wants maybe it would speed the process up! I guess for now I will just set me up with some VV/VW and a fogger or something
