hey reoville

just wondering if anyone has the same problem as me. I recently got a grand but cannot figure out why the bottom spring screw keeps getting really hot when I'm puffing on it. I've tried a few different things to solve it but nothing seems to be working so far.
i have tried giving it a good wash and clean all the contacts and some deoxit gold on all the contacts and even a dab of nolax on the screw itself before i screwed it back on to the mod.
so I've tried the same atty on my mini and i don't get the problem but anything i put on the grand the bottom spring screw just gets really hot. I'm wondering if it would be the batteries I'm using. i have AW imr 2200.
ive gotten pretty good at holding my mod without touching the bottom screw since I've got the mod but if i can fix this little problem that will be awesome.

thanks!!!!

It shouldn't be getting hot at all....so I'm wondering if there isn't a minor short occurring somewhere or if you're coil is too low in ohms.

Has your spring collapsed or changed color at all?

Is this a new or used or older reo?

does it have the upgraded spring & contacts?

What is your coil build?

Got a photo of your coil with the cover off?

Are either a post or wire touching the cap or a metal drip tip?....

Got a photo of the mod with the battery in place and the door off?

Is it possible you crushed a gasket in the connector by over tightening an RBA?

Which RBA are you using?

Have you checked your battery...what voltage does it read?

no the spring has not collapsed or changed color
it is brand new from rob. it has the upgraded spring and contact.
my coil is at 0.5ohms on a odin right now. nothing is touching in the rda. i use the 2nd fatter o ring from rob with my odin so im sure im not tightening it too tight.
my battery comes off the charger at 4.2 volts.
i dont have a picture at the moment but i will figure that out and post one up

Have you unscrewed the delrin cover and checked under the hood for anything wrong - like a broken switch contact to the 510 center pin?

Need some moar basic infos like RF suggested. And do you have a DMM to check the Reo for shorts?

yes ive opened it up and everything looks fine to me. unless i missed something.....

I'm guessing you have a colored coating on your grand and all the current from the negative contact is going through that screw. Maybe take some of the coating off from under the spring plate so the electrical current has an alternate path to share the load. It would also improve your voltage drop. If that screw is getting hot, that means it's also providing unwanted resistance.

Maybe some good ideas on how to remove the coating while retaining its beauty???

Try removing your o ring snug the atty down a little more . It sounds to me at some place there is a bottle neck or a bad connection . If your spring screw is tight it can only be at the atty or were the positive contact is sandwiched in between the center post . You can try to tighten the center post as well . If you cant figure it out send it to me I will find the problem.

i just tried it without the o ring on and it is still hot. i will try to tighten the center pin but dont know how to do it properly... do i just use a flat head and turn it clockwise ??

For the Odin bf the 510 center pin isn't a flat head, it's pressed in and screwed from the top positive post (told that from Craig, Loki Labs) and you can tighten it by using pliers and turning the center post clockwise. Problem is gonna be holding the bottom 510 pin.. you could stick a small point tip file in the juice hole to keep it from spinning. My Odin has the 510 pin slightly sticking out so I am able to grab the head with pliers.. hope this helps/ makes sense..

^What tmel said... you'll end up breaking your firing pin connector. The threaded part that's very very thin. Then you'll need a repair kit..

Try tightening your Odin 510/ post. And also make sure it's backed out enough to make solid connection. Just lose your o ring under the attys altogether, to make sure the problem doesn't happen again.

well i tried and i cant seem to figure out how to adjust the center pin on the odin. i give up ill just deal with the screw being hot.
and ya it is the odins problem i just realized. i place my rm2 on there and the screw doesnt get hot.
PM Craig from Loki labs "SoCalCraig" he will surely take it back and fix it for you.

Send them both to me I will find the problem . It doesn't sound to me like you would be comfortable taking the mod apart . The center post on the mod is made of two pieces . There threaded together were they meet in the middle your positive contact is sandwiched in between the two . If the center post is lose here you wont have a solid connection . You can tighten this up with a flat head screw driver and a small pair of pliers . Of course this is all speculation it could be the atty I cant tell from over the net .
