Ok so I have been doing DIY and I like to mix my PG and VG together in one big bottle. The first bottle of nic base I got was 80 pg 20 vg and I would mix up my base 50/50 and that got me close to what I wanted in my finished product which is 65 pg 35 pg.

Now I see that the option of 80/20 nic base is no longer available and I can either get 100 pg.....100 VG or 50/50 for my nic base.

My question is what should I mix my base up as if I want to use the 50/50 blend of nic base and have a finished product of around 65 pg 35 vg ?

And if you can explain how I could figure it out myself that would be wonderful! I usually use 30 ml bottles but sometimes I use 15 and 50 ml bottles. Would that make a difference if I use the same pre mixed PG VG base?

I ask cause the first batch I attempted I way overdid it on the PG without realizing and wound up with hives! Dont want to go through that again.

Thanks!

Hmmmm, If you have no-nic base at 50/50 and a nic base at 50/50, and you add no flavoring, obviously you'd have a 50/50 final mix.

But if you had 10% flavoring, which is usually PG based, your final mix would be 55/45 PG/VG.
And if you had 15% flavoring your final mix would be 57/43 PG/VG.

Since PG is the thing that causes your hives and your maximum is 65%, seems that going 50/50 on both would work pretty well for you.

Can you tell me how you figured that out? I need to know for future reference. And it doesn't make a difference what size bottle I make?

Well, I used percentage math like I learned while dinosaurs roamed the earth, so size of bottle is irrelevant. While I can use my percentage math, I have no idea how to teach it...5th grade was just too long ago to remember how it was taught to me...

Let's see if I can do a break down of what I did in non-percentage math which will apply no matter what size bottle you use.

I assumed you had a 50/50 nic base and a 50/50 non-nic base. Note that both of those, 50+50=100, so that's shorthand for 50% and 50%. (And 55/45 is 55% and 45% so the total is always 100% so you know you have the whole thing.)

10% flavor that I assumed, let's put it in a 30ml bottle, so that's 10% of 30ml or 3ml of flavoring. There is 27ml left in that bottle. (30-3). Since both bases are 50/50 that means that half of the 27 remaining ml's is VG, so there is 13.5ml of VG in the 30ml bottle of 10% flavoring. 13.5ml / 30ml (total volume) is 45%VG. Since 45% is VG and the remaining is PG and you have to have 100% to have a whole, 100-45=55. So that bottle contains 55/45 (55% PG and 45% VG)

Same with the 15% flavoring I assumed. 15% of 30ml is 4.5ml. 30ml-4.5ml is 25.5ml. Half of that 25.5ml is VG, so 12.75ml is VG. 12.75ml/30ml=42.5 or 43% VG. So there is 57% PG for 57/43 PG/VG.

It's quicker when I do it in my head and use that percentage math, but the results are the same.

I sympathize with you!!! I've had the hives and they are not fun. In fact I got them from the latex on the patches to try & quit smoking!! Ended up in the ER!!
