What's up guys , so I'm new to rba's , I got myself a couple of kayfun clones and also got a squape on the way . I've built one coil using I believe a 1/16 Dremel bit (I think that's the size might be wrong) , saw some people recomend it on here . wrapped it about 7-9 times (not to sure how many it was) , pinched it , torched it , anyway it came out to about 1.9 on the ohm meter and my svd . It was a pain in the .... to get right because deck on kayfun kept getting loose but that's for another thread . I'm using the kayfuns on my svd and nemesis clone . Got some of the grey pannys for the svd and a couple of orange mkne's for my nemesis . I'm looking to experiment with different resistance coil builds . And might try some drippers down the line once I get a better grip on things .

now the question at hand , I found a coil calculator on the App Store it looks brand new and it seems to be the only one in the App Store at this time . But I'm having a hard time figuring it out it goes a little like this

choose kanthal/nich 27-35 , AWG 1-3
Rounds 0-30 , 0-9
Round diam 0-40 , AWG 1-9
One tail length 0-40 , in 0-9
Resistance,ohm =
Wire length to cut = In

heres a couple of pics of what I'm looking at ( sorry for links , pics were to big )

So my question is what are round diam , AWG and one tail length , in for ??? I'm guessing rounds is wraps but the 0-30and 0-9 got me confused , same with the other stuff. .

App was only 99 cents so I said F it and bought it , hoping this can help me take some guess work out of building coils until I get more familiar with how many wraps will be what with different gauge kanthal .

Thanks for for any help you can give me , I'd really apreciate it !

This is just a guess but...

Round Diameter is the diameter of what you are wrapping on. AWG = American Wire Gauge, Tail length must be Lead length. The way that app is set up is very confusing, nothing like Vaper's Toolbox.

What are you trying to build?

I can put the numbers in Vaper's toolbox and tell you what it says...

Give me:
Wire type (Kanahal, Nicrome)
Coil type (single, dual, triple or quad coil)
Gauge of wire
Target resistance
Coil diameter in mm
Lead length in inches (like .25 for 1/4 inch)

Sorry I can't help you. The only app I use is to apply my fingers to the wire and wrap it around the drill) bit/machine screw (or what ever I happen to be using at the time). If you are worried about wasting wire buy it here - Kanthal A1 Wire 29 Gauge 50 ft 0 25oz Resistance Resistor AWG A 1 | eBay - for some reason 30ga is 4-5 times more expensive - now if you are not interested in subohms - get the 32 ga - actually, just check the prices and order 2-3-4 different gauges (I wouldn't get 33 or 34 or higher #/smaller diameter than the 32) then you will be set for life.

The only time I have ever been concerned with the ohms/length was when I was experimenting with non-resistance/resistance/non-resistance builds but I quit on those because it was a pain (and I haven't taken the time to build a little wire welder yet)

You are better off just doing trial and error (I left the tails on and then I was able to add or subtract coils as needed until I had the resistance I wanted - and then I wrote it down - I also keep my jigs (drill bits/machine screws/syringe needles) that I use dedicated to just building coils in my coil building storage kit

sorry I couldn't help with your specific question

I haven't used that but I've wrote my own simple program.
Here's my best guess.

choose kanthal/nich 27-35 , AWG 1-3
wire material and gage
Rounds 0-30 , 0-9
number of wraps
Round diam 0-40 , AWG 1-9
coil Inside Diameter (size of what you wrap it on)
One tail length 0-40 , in 0-9
length of lead from coil to connector
Resistance,ohm =
Finished resistance
Wire length to cut = In
total wire length needed to make the coil

Sorry. I use vapemate to track my spending & a DIY app for juice on my iPhone for vaping & that's about it. I didn't even know there was an app for building coils. I use trial & error too. If it's not where I want it I just add or remove a wrap.

Thank You for mentioning this app...vapemate. I just put it on my iPhone and am shocked by how much money I use to spend on analog cigarettes.

No problem! I love that app! It's nice to see your spending habits compared to smoking. And I finally broke even for the 2nd time yesterday. This time I plan on staying in the green...ummm yeah...went on a juice binge early on:facepalm:
