If you're dripping into the atomizer using a drip tip, you'll need to drip 3 drops into it after about 6 to 10 drags (also called, puffs or vapes). The number of vapes will vary, depending on how long you puff on it each time. Some people have posted 8 to 10 vapes, others have posted 6 to 8 vapes -- per every 3 drips into the drip tip. However, it would seem that some of the
juice will remain in the drip tip, so you might need to drip more than 3 drops into the drip tip.
When you get a burnt taste, it means the atomizer is dry and needs more liquid.
When the atomizer gets too hot, it means it's too dry and needs more liquid.
If you continue to try to vape a dry atomizer, the atomizer will burn out and will no longer work.
If your
juice has VG in it (vegetable glycerine), you should be getting good vapor, as long as you keep the atomizer wet with liquid.
If you get tired of dripping into the drip tip/atomizer, you could try a cartomizer, which is a one-piece cartridge with a built-in atomizer and filter. When filling blank cartomizers, you just drip about 18 to 20 drops directly into the filter, after removing the mouth end white cap, while holding the cartomizer at a 45-degree angle. When refilling cartomizers, drip 10 to 12 drops into the filter. If you drip more than that into the filter, it will overfill it, and the result will be less vapor, harder to puff, and a need to blow through the threaded end of the cartomizer into a tissue to remove the excess juice.
If you do decide to switch to cartomizers, you'll probably see recommendations to use the "condom" method to refill them. This is more time-consuming and is more messy than directly dripping into the filter. With the direct drip method, you just remove the white mouth cap, drip, put the mouth cap back on, and vape. There's no mess to clean up and no chance of overfilling the carto, if you only drip about 10 drops into the filter (drip no more than 12 drops, and that could be too many, if you didn't vape the carto until you got the burnt taste, which would be too long, since the burnt taste means the atomizer is burning the filter).
